About This Item

A Soldiers Pride

This is a patch off of a soldiers uniform. This young man is stationed in Afghanistan and sent this to me as a thank you for sending him much needed items. Visit www.booksforsoldiers.com to help the many other soldiers fighting overseas. Mike sent this to me because he is no longer allowed to wear it on his uniform (he did not go into specifics, but I believe it has to do with the recent conflicts). It is half of the American flag and half of afghanistan's flag. It would like to visit various war memorials around the world as a reminder that freedom is not free.

This monument seemed a likely place for A Soldier's Pride to visit, so I took the BTS Skytrain out here to visit and look for a nearby cache with no luck.

I had not been to this "piece of history" in the middle of Hanoi before, but always wanted to visit it, so having A Soldier's Pride with me, made it the right time to visit. The actual cache is the remains of a B52 bomber shot down in 1972 during the aerial bombardment of Hanoi, in a small body of water located in an urban area of the city. There is also a B52 Museum nearby, which I visited.

  • At a piece of history cache The remains of a B52 bomber can be seen in the background in this small lake in Hanoi. A soldier's Pride is in my hand.
  • Remains of a B52 bomber The remains of a downed B52 bomber have been colected and are laid out in the grounds of the B52 Museum in Hanoi. It was a huge aircraft!

I visited a old Dutch Fort near the Taman Sari Water Castle cache, so thought I would show a military fortification in Indonesia, as part of th ejourney for a Soldier's Pride.
