The bridge of the USS Knapp is on display at the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria Oregon ... This bug's current goal is to visit that display.
There are still at least 4 (more) Fletcher Class Destroyers preserved as museum pieces throughout the world.
The USS Cassin Young DD-793 in Boston MA.
The USS Kidd DD-661 in Baton Rouge LA.
The USS Charrette DD-581 in Faliro Greece
... There may be a fifth Fletcher Still around, if it is, it is the (I believe) only surviving example of the round bridge Fletcher, The USS John Rodgers DD-574 ... last recorded around
Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, Mexico. (I thought I found a site that mentioned it being towed home to be scrapped ... but it's hard to track down)
And of course the USS Sullivans DD-537 in our home town of Buffalo NY.
I would like to visit these ships, and as many other destroyers as I can before I return home to be decomissioned.
Thank You.

My Grandfather served on the USS Knapp from shakedown until 1945, and earned 7 of her 8 battle stars.
I launch this bug in his honor.
(From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fletcher_class_destroyer)
The USS. Knapp Is a Fletcher Class destroyer. The Fletcher class were a class of destroyers built by the United States during WWII. The class was designed in 1939 as a result of dissatisfaction with the earlier destroyer leader types. Some went on to serve during the Korean War and into the Vietnam War.
The US Navy commissioned 175 Fletcher-class destroyers between 1942 and 1944, more than any other destroyer class, and the Fletcher design was generally regarded as highly successful. The Fletcher class had a design speed of 38 knots, armed with five 5" guns in single mounts and carrying 10 21" torpedo in twin quintuple centerline mounts.Laid down in Bath Maine by Bath Iron works on March 8'th 1943. She was launched on July 10'th 1943, and commissioned on 16 September 1943. During WWII She earned 8 battle stars and was present in Tokyo Bay durring the Japaneese Surrender on September 1'st, 1945. After the war she returned home and was decomissioned on july 5'th 1946. -
In 1951 on May 3'rd, The Knapp was recomissioned to participate in the Korean War effort. She ran patrols during this war then returned in 1956, and was decomissioned on March 4'th 1957.
On March 3'rd 1972 She was strickenfrom the record, and was sold for scrap in 1973.

I just picked up the remains is what was my cache, and no trackable... or cache really, in sight. Just a bunch of baggies and paper under an old lid. I do have on the cache page that it is death to trackables but folks don't seem to believe me. I know how mush it sucks when they go missing. Hopefully someone is just late logging. Here's hopeful wishes to you.

I didn't quite grab it from the holder, but in a cache. Anyhow, it's safe and sound. I'm sending it to NY with my wife next week. Great trackable!
