About This Item

On the shore of the ... well, Green Bay actually.

The passing of most is honored with considerable ceremony, but the warrior's is often more so.  He is one who's life is surrounded by peril, prone to end on any given day, and, generally, spent protecting the lands and principles of others (often to the detriment of those he loves, even if they are his sole motivation).  However, when a warrior passes, he may be surrounded by those who do not know him well, or he may even be in the hands of his enemy.  Thus, many of the ceremonies that surround a warrior's passing are very scripted, and often contain rights performed specifically to honor a man whose life is unknown, but whose actions were unquestionable.

The coins of the dead are simply an example of funeral ceremony; though very distinct, they are not limited to the warrior.  In ancient times, the dead would be buried or cremated with two coins over their eyes, as payment to the Ferry Man for crossing the river Styx to the Underworld.
