Our Geocaching extravaganza is now over. We ended up driving a little over 5100 miles, cached in 18 states, and moved 29 Travel Bugs or Coins (some much further than others). We attempted, as much as possible, to help the travelers achieve their missions. Some we couldn’t help so we dropped them off as soon as we could. Noteable among our travel companions were a coin and a TB from New Zealand, a Bear that originated in Slovakia and has traveled Europe extensively, a TB sent out to explore as a tribute to a parent, coins launched in spite of previous attempts that ended in zero miles traveled before the coins disappeared, a young lad TB who fell in with bad company and in spite of having a very modest goal, took almost 4 years to achieve it, and a Red Jeep named after a river in Montana that we just HAD to bring back to our home state.
Geocaching afforded us a great opportunity to occasionally get off the freeway and discover unique facets of the US we never would have dreamed existed. Who knew there was a North American Wife Carrying Championship???? We certainly didn’t. We also didn’t realize that there are places you can buy French Fries cooked in Duck Fat and served with Truffle Oil infused Ketchup. If you ever get a chance, try them.
We’ve dropped off several of our traveling companions, and will deposit the rest within the next couple weeks. I’m posting pictures of our trip with this farewell message. Some of the photos may not apply to your traveler, but we felt it was appropriate since they were part of the journey and were with us in spirit if not physically.
We enjoyed having your bugs and coins with us to share this journey.
