Travel as fast as possible from Knivskjelodden, continental Europe's most nothernmost point, to the cache Ommetje Aarle in Best, The Netherlands.
This Travel bug was released during our summer holidays in 2013 together with three other travel bugs:
- Knivskjelodden to Klompengat #1 - Esther
- Knivskjelodden to Klompengat #2 - Peter
- Knivskjelodden to Klompengat #3 - Winona
All four travel bugs are competing in a race to get 'home' as fast as possible.
The orange clogs have unfortunately gone missing. Special thanks to Austrian geocacher Neugierdsnase for attaching a new white clog to the travel bug!
Please no 'visited/took it to' logs...!
Why the clogs ("klompen" in Dutch)?
Well, the Netherlands are ofcourse often associated with clogs. But the reason why we chose clogs for this travel bug -- and not windmills, tulips or cheese -- is that we live in Best, which was one of the largest centres of clog manufacturing in the 19th century. With the introduction of machine-made clogs in the 20th century the clog industry quickly started disappearing in Best.
Although clogs are nowadays hardly visible in Best, its history is remembered by Best's nickname during carnival: "Klompengat". Litterally translated it means "Hamlet of Clogs".
