The Eiffel Tower (324 metres tall) was designed by the French engineer Gustave Eiffel and built by his company. Erected in 1889 as the entrance arch to the World's Fair, it was initially criticised by some of France's leading artists and intellectuals for its design. Nevertheless it has become a global cultural icon.
Der Eiffel Turm (324 Meter hoch) wurde konstruiert vom französischen Ingenieur Gustav Eiffel und gebaut von seiner Firma. Erstellt 1889 als Eingangsbogen zur Weltausstellung, wurde das Werk anfänglich von mehreren französischen Intellektuellen kritisiert. Trotzdem wurde es zu einer Ikone der Weltkultur.
