About This Item

Cucamonga Railroad Cacher - The Travel Bug Limited

As with all railroads, the Travel Bug Limited had a set itinerary and schedule. Unfortunately, the Travel Bug LImited got derailed in July 2005 in California, but has gotten back on track clear across the country in New York.  Yep, go figure that one out.  The Travel Bug Limited wants to take a ride on the scenic railroads anywhere in the United States. Some of the stops scheduled on the way include:

Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad
California Western Skunk Train
Golden Spike National Historic Site
Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad
Black Hills Central Railroad
Mt. Washington Cog Railway
Gettysburg Scenic Railway
Manitou & Pike's Peak Railway

The Travel Bug Limited is a round trip fare, starting in California and ending back in California after it gets to see these famous railways.

This was the cache that we had intended to put this T-Bug into on our trip to the redwoods and the Sierra Nevada. Unfortunately, it turned out to be three sizes too small (or is that the Grinch's heart? Well, either way...), so we couldn't leave it. And none of the other caches that we found were large enough for this Bug, so we still have it. Someday, we will get rid of it! ๐Ÿค•

The Amtrak Pacific Surfliner (formerly the Coast Starlight, which Jim thinks was a much cooler name) runs along the beach most of the way between Ventura and Santa Barbara, as well as from there past Gaviota and on up the coast. The tracks pass very close to three geocaches in or near Emma Wood State Beach, just west of Ventura. We've already been to them, but there were other Travel Bugs in two of them, so Jim went to nab them for our imminent trip North, and decided to let the RR Bug see a different sort of rail travel ๐Ÿ™‚

The trip is almost over for the Ventura County Marching and geocaching Society ๐Ÿ˜‰ This is the last cache that we did with any others of the group, although we did one more on our own. Our RR Bug has been a boffo companion and its owner can be proud of it ๐Ÿ˜ Soon, though, we'll be moving it along on it's real journey.

Reclaiming the RR bug after a brief stop in a curious geocache along California Route 14. While the cache log says that we found the cache at the end of our trip, we passed right by the thing on our trip up, but were running late so couldn't stop. Thus, we feel no compunction to logging this now ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Caboose on the Loose winds up another day of geocaching in the Mojave at one of the more difficult and fun caches of the trip. To their credit, every biker we 'ran into' (not literally! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ) was respectful of us, and I think we were respectful of them. We can get along, if we make the effort ๐Ÿ™‚
