About This Item

Great Intercontinental TB Racer 2015

This racer comprises a geocoin from South Africa's first ever MEGA event in 2012.  It was held in our home town of Pretoria and we loved every minute of it!  It was also the first MEGA we ever attended and we decided there and then that we would do our utmost to attend any and/or all future MEGA events in South Africa.

The coin is a reminder of the great times we had at that first MEGA held on the African continent, as well as at the next MEGA event in Durban in 2014 and also serves to remind us of the future good times that we know geocaching will bring. Isn't it just an awesome game?!

In that spirit, this is also our entry into The Great Continental TB Race 2015

The race starts on 31 January 2015 and will end on 31 January 2016.

For further information, please visit  The Great Continental TB Race page.

Rules

  1. Dipping (or visiting) is not allowed.  However, we can't stop this from occurring.  So how do we handle a dip?  If a dip occurs, scoring volunteers recalculate mileage from the starting point to the ending point, disregarding the dipped cache.  Any points earned from the dip will not be tallied, including pictures, borders, etc.  In some caches, this has resulted in serious point losses.  All travel bugs will have an attached tag that states the No Dipping rule. The only time this rule will not be enforced is when the TB visits an Earth Cache or attends an Event, CITO, Mega or Giga.
  2. Contestants in the race are forbidden from handling any racing travel bug.  This is done to prevent people from cheating by intentionally moving other entries to hinder their travels. All travel bugs is recommended to have a tag attached to it stating that they are in the "The Great Continental Race".
  3. Contestants are encouraged to track their own travel bug's movements.  Each month, the race standings will be updated with the scores for all entries.  If you feel that your entry's score is incorrect, or you feel that you have miscalculated, please contact the race organiser for assistance, along with details.
  4. It will be the TB owners responsibility to forward all links to photos being uploaded for the TB. Once the link has been verified the points will be awarded. So simply put: No Email of link = no points awarded.
  5. There is an inherent risk in releasing any travel bug that it might go missing.  In the event, this occurs, and evidence points to it clearly being gone (and not just mis-logged), please contact the race organiser.  If it is truly missing, you may be allowed to re-enter the race using your copy tag.  Final say is up to the race organiser.  It is helpful if before contacting us, you have already made contact with someone to verify if it is missing and if any information might help track it down, and that info is provided when contacting us.

Scoring

  1. Points for distance that is calculated by the programme is running separately from Geocaching.com. Therefore, the calculation may not be 100% the same as found on the TB Page.
  2. Kindly refrain from posting a Photo of your TB number showing or adding your TB to any list for discovery. This goes against the ethos of this Race.
  3. Points for crossing provincial/state borders will be based on a straight line model, using the travel bug’s map. No matter how a cacher travels as they carry the travel bug, a straight line between cache A and cache B will be used to determine which provincial borders are crossed and how many times they are crossed.
  4. Points for TB's dropped in caches will only be awarded once for a cache. Once a bug gets dropped in a cache, any subsequent drops in that cache will not count for points.
  5. As a person does not normally drop a TB in an Earth Cache, any visit to an Earth Cache will be allowed.
  6. Any cache that has Hotel, Lodge in its name will be considered as a TB Hotel. On condition that its size is a regular size or bigger.
  7. Points for dropping a TB in a cache that has a rating for either the difficulty or terrain of 2.5 or higher, will earn points for the D/T rating of the cache.
  8. Points for crossing national/country borders will be based on a straight line model, using the travel bug’s map. No matter how a cacher travels as they carry the travel bug, a straight line between cache A and cache B will be used to determine which provincial borders are crossed and how many times they are crossed.
  9. Points for posting pictures will only be awarded for one photo per cache. A cacher who post multiple photos for the same cache will not gain additional points, though it is encouraged if the poster desires to help document the travels. As there is no way to determine if a photo has been uploaded onto Geocaching.com, this will be the responsibility of the TB owner to email me the link of the photo. Only once I've confirmed the link will point be awarded. No email = no points!!!!
  10. Points for attendance at an event is only awarded once per event.
  11. If a travel bug attends a CITO event, it will earn a higher point than an Event. The item will only receive points for one race type per cacher. In other words, attending a CITO event does not gain points for both the Event goal and the CITO goal. Only the CITO goal will be counted (the same applies to MEGA and GIGA).
  12. If a travel bug attends a MEGA event, it will earn points at a higher amount. The item will only receive points for one race type per cacher. In other words, attending a MEGA event does not gain points for both the Event goal and the MEGA goal. Only the MEGA goal will be counted (the same applies to CITO and GIGA).
  13. If a travel bug attends a GIGA event, it will earn points at a higher amount. The item will only receive points for one race type per cacher. In other words, attending a GIGA event does not gain points for both the Event goal and the MEGA goal. Only the GIGA goal will be counted (the same applies to CITO and MEGA).
