This bug's original goal was to travel east only. On 11/21/04, this TB reached the Atlantic Ocean in Massachusetts! Feel free to move it along wherever you wish now.
The fleet has set sail and are headed to the far corners of America if not the world! This bug and it's three partner bugs wish to travel in different cardinal directions. Hopefully, you did not pick one up and take it hundreds of miles in the wrong direction before reading the instructions!
This particular bug, a battleship from the popular game, wishes to travel east. As the description states, it is to only be replaced into a cache that has a longitude less than it's last stop.
Please only move this bug if you can follow the goal. I am interested in seeing wether or not this will be successful, and where the bugs end up. Sorry to lay down a ton of rules, but there are plenty of bugs that have no goal, and I wanted to create a set that had a specific goal to see how far I can get them from each other.
How can I tell if the new cache lies east of the last one?
-Simply compare the longitudes of the two caches. Treat the entire longitude as a number (for example, W 85 47.012 becomes 8,547,012). If the coordinate of the new cache is less than the old one, the cache most likely lies to the east.
Can I move the bug north/south over a long distance?
-Sure. Just make sure that you are still moving east, if only by a little
Can this bug be moved with it's partners to the same cache?
-Yes, but only in pairs, and only if the new cache fits the requirements for both bugs. Say you take the North and West bugs and place them into the same cache. In that case, the new cache must be both north and west of the old one. North and south bugs (and east and west bugs) cannot be moved together.
What if a bug reaches the equator, prime meridian, etc?
-It would be great if the bug successfully traveled this far! If one does happen to cross over into a different hemisphere of the globe, simply keep it traveling in the same direction. At some point I may decide to recall the bugs or change their goal, but only if necessary.
Oops. I live out West, and picked up this bug somewhere in Florida and got it home before reading the description. What should I do?
-Some people consider it bad form to mail a bug, and if you cannot possibly help it continue along it's path, you can (aside from being ashamed of yourself for practicing poor geo-manners
) just place it in a cache where it should continue as planned.
I'm hoping this works out. If the laminated tag with instructions is missing or damaged, please email me and let me know right away! Thanks!
