In ancient times many sailors thought the manatee was a mermaid. Since that time it has stirred the interest of many due to its gentleness and easy, slow movements. Today it is more often called a sea cow. Boomer was the name of the first manatee that I adopted through the "Save the Manatee" organization. He was killed a few years later by the propellor of a careless boater. There are so many creatures being lost to our children and grandchildren through our careless actions and ignorance. With a little thoughtful action we can save many of these wonders for those who come after us.
