Sheep farming is a significant industry in New Zealand. According to 2007 figures reported by the United Nations, there are 39 million sheep in the country (a count of about 10 per individual). The country has the highest density of sheep per unit area in the world. Sheep numbers peaked in New Zealand in 1982 to 70 million and then dropped to about 40 million. There are 16,000 sheep and beef farms in the country which has made the country the world's largest exporter of lambs, with 24 million finished lambs recorded every year. Visiting some relatives in Doncaster in Melbourne’s east. There was originally a train line planned to go down the Eastern Freeway to Doncaster but why spend money on public transport when you can build more roads and add more lanes on the freeway? So shortsighted. 🚙

Took a walk down to the Yarra River from my in-law’s house in Alphington. It’s very pretty down there, you wouldn’t know you were in the suburbs of Melbourne. 🛶

I took an old rattler tram around the city circle so I could find the answers for this cache. I used to take trams like these to school in the late 80s. The modern trams were already in service but you’d still get one of the old trams fairly regularly. They were cold in winter but I never minded them. The W-class tram is a cultural icon to Melbourne: those that remain in the city are classified by the National Trust of Australia. 🎟️

Lots of things to do today. Raced out to Ringwood in Melbourne’s east to return some camping gear to my friends. Decided I still had a little time to grab some geocachers by Mister Doctor. He makes some great ones. Look them up if you are in the area. Then it was off to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival for a few laughs. 🤣

After sniggering at the name, we took a trip with Wombat Mother to Cobbledicks Ford Reserve. It’s beside the Werribee River and is meant to have a platypus population It could be a really nice spot but it seems to be a dumping spot and car hoon area. People are so disappointing. 🛢️
