Multiple Sclerosis MS affects 2.3 million people worldwide. It is an invisible disease. Meaning by just ooking at a person you can not tell they have it. Later in the disease many people will end up in wheelchais or bed bound.
The body attacks the coating on the nerves, called myelin, and the nerve fibers themselves. It interferes with the transmission of nerve signals between the brain and spinal cord and other parts of the body.
MS can cause many symptoms, including blurred vision, loss of balance, poor coordination, slurred speech, tremors, numbness, extreme fatigue, problems with memory and concentration, paralysis, and blindness and more. These problems may come and go or persist and worsen over time. Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, although individuals as young as 2 and as old as 75 have developed it.
Treatments and living with MS can be grueling for the person suffering from it, and those around them.
