I'm actually headed over to Ground Zero next weekend... I'll see what I can do to get some pics for you.
Ground Zero was a whole set of emotions I cannot describe... I haven't been to the city since before 9/11, and am really glad I had planned this trip. I was able to take some pictures (not great quality), but your travel bug was there and photographed. I also included 2 other travel bugs that were fire department/rescue related. The three bugs in the photos are:
1. WTC 343 (TBEB97), 2. Mombasha Fire Co Search & Rescue (TB11PYF), 3. Firetruck from Lynden WA (TB742A)
You will also notice the picture of the FDNY Ladder Co 10 which is located at the edge of the WTC. It truly was amazing to go there and view the area today. There were many that were dumbstruck still, greiving still, remembering still, etc. You could see military personnel from every branch of the service wandering about the area as this was Memorial Day... they were all dressed in their best uniforms. And beyond the lining of the WTC life goes on... hundreds of bicyclists, joggers, picnickers, walkers, sightseers, etc. The river front walks are blossoming with color and full of happy people.
The skyline may have changed, lives affected or taken, loved ones gone... but the heart and soul of NYC is still alive and well... and lest we shall never forget...
