About This Item

Captain Bill

THIS TB is dedicated to Captain Bill - Wilson D "Bill" Montgomery. Captain Bill was born in 1908 in Port Huron, MI and died in 2002. As a young man Bill was an outstanding athlete excelling in football and track. He was inducted into the Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame.
During WWII. He taught at Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy in New York. He became a licensed maritime pilot qualified for all seas. He spent summers crewing on the Great Lakes freighters.

Bill was a member of the Port Huron Yacht Club and a past Commodore. He was an enthusiastic and competitive sailor aboard his 30 square meter sailboat "Moose". Older members of the club can tell many a story about Bill and Moose.

I found Captain Bill in the RIP at the Crossroads Cache (GCJKDE) on May 26. We placed him in It's a Double Play (GCMP49) on May 29. Just got back home today to make the log!

I found this cache in Hickory, NC 28602 at It's a Double Play! GCMP49. I'll keep him on his adventures. It seems fitting that I went sailing today on my mom's sail boat. I'll think of a neat place to move him along to soon.
