Current Goal

This virtual Travel Bug moves like a benevolent minister, priest, rabbi, (shaman, spiritual advisor, fill in your own) etc. to stand with you as you bestow respect and rememberance towards the memory of great, lost caches that are now archived. St. Fanurius of Geo seeks only those caches which were truly great, deserved to be honored and are now sorely missed.

About This Item

Do you mourn for the loss a particular archived cache which was quite special in it's location and/or design? Do you wish others could now experience the joy that you remembered when you were there? Our Saint offers comfort and gentleness for your geocacher heart.

All you need to do is invite our Saint along with you to the page of any archived geocache that is truly worthy of such a rememberance. Just Post A Note on the archived cache's page to drop off this bug and mention the Saint's role in visiting.

Then make sure you post a nicely detailed paragraph here describing your thoughts and your memories of the cache. Let us know why it was so special and why it is so missed nowadays. Just posting this TB in some cache with no note makes the Saint very sad, because he REALLY needs your written memories of the past cache in order to give a proper rememberance. Thanks for your detailed description of what made the cache worth a Saintly visit.

(IMPORTANT: As of April 20,2005, a detailed paragraph on this page is now a required rule. If this rule is not followed, a single polite reminder note will be sent by the owner to the cacher who didn't take the rule into consideration. A reminder note will also be posted by the TB owner on this page. If the log is not properly re-done within 7 days, that log will be deleted by the TB owner. Thank you for treating the Saint with proper respect.)

You never know... after the Saint is invited to be with you for a ceremony of respect and rememberance to a particular bygone cache, we may just witness this TB's rumored saintly powers of ressurrection! When that happens, we can claim an Official St. Fanurius of Geo Miracle. "Lo! For a great archived cache with no hope comes to life again! Hallelujah!!"

His name, St. Fanurius of Geo, is inspired by the name of the patron saint of lost things. Check out the history of the original saint name.

St. Fanurius of Geo's TB number is 454473. Please respect our Saint's sacred mission and guide his visits only towards those caches which are both bygone and greatly missed.

There is no longer a time limit for how long a worthy cache has been archived to make it eligible for a Saintly rememberance. Also, more than one person may join in memorials of the same cache (by 'grabbing' the bug and putting it back there with their own written eulogy-log on the cache page) IF the past cache is truly so worth such a salute. :)

I was on vacation in May last year, when I looked for the cache 'Baaaadd to the Bone'.
I couldn't believe what I saw when I located it and finally had a lot of fun feeding the cache inhabitants.
It brings up nice memories about a great vacation. Since then I've never seen a cache like this again.

Bubble Bubble Toil & Trouble was the end cache of a many-part multi-mystery. I don't remember exactly how many BBTT parts there were, but I think there were 16 parts. You needed to find parts of codes as well as a decoder strip in order to calculate the coords to the end cache.

A lot of trouble you might think, but the end cache was a HUGE ammo box (20MM) which made this a very great large final. Goldsnoop, the owner of this great puzzle, obtained permission from the police chief and borough supervisor to keep the cache behind a shrub outside the North East Police Department... what location could be safer from muggles?

Well, an underling at the police dept spotted this box and hadn't been told what it was. The bomb squad was called, and after a long story, they blew it up. Many people had very nearly completed the BBTT series, but now the end cache was gone.

Goldsnoop acquired a new large ammo box and added an extra piece to the puzzle for the rest of us to get to it. Of course, it is no longer outside the police department 😉

It was a great series with a giant surprise at the end; that is why it was so special. You can read the whole story here:

There is a very great mystery cache which is no longer with us, so I'm asking St. Fanurius to visit...

'Picked up' to drop off at a corker I never managed to do before it was archived. In the end I placed my own on a similar theme not far away.

Dan Wilson and Ben Pid placed 'Wetlands (3) Island Hopping (Bucks)' in June 2002, but after it vanished several times, it had to be archived. Such a shame as it had elements I really liked. For example, you couldn't just walk to it as it was hidden on a small island (complete with duck house) in the middle of a lake. Several cachers did manage to swim out to it and their photographs make looking at the cache page well worth while! A really unusual and fun cache which tops my personal 'I wish I did it before it was archived' list. Formerly a 5/5, it was downgraded to a 4/4 not long before it was muggled/stolen by ducks.

Dropping off St Fanuirius of Geo Patron Saint of Great Caches Past.

This cache was set up as part of a series of caches, set up by Edinburgh cachers, on the Water of Leith walkway through Edinburgh. The walkway is 12 miles long and runs from Balerno at the foot of the Pentland Hills, to Leith docks on the Firth of Forth. The first cache of the series 'A Silver Thread in a Ribbon of Green' (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=844172b2-6213-4d6d-a37f-2b92f0a225c1)- which is how the Water of Leith is described - has all the information about the cache trail along the walkway. The cache series inspired the 2nd SGDO (Scottish Geocachers Day Out)(http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=05684bf6-a7ac-4661-827a-f5726de1eb19).

This cache was placed on a stretch of the walkway that used to be a railway line, now long gone. However the station house and platform remain and the cache was hidden in a hole in the platform. Unfortunately it was muggled, was replaced for the event, muggled again and replaced in another smaller hole as a micro, which was then muggled for the third time. I decided that it was not worth replacing as clearly someone was on the look out for it. This was a shame since it decreased the number of caches available on the WoL cache trail.

Going to visit an archived cache in Edinburgh, Scotland.

This cache was located at the so-called "Holy Mountain" - the well know bavarian monastry "Kloster Andechs". But before you were able to find the cache you had to solve a really difficult riddle: It was about real bavarian culture.

Once you were at the monastry, you could taste all the up-sides of the southern state: A very beatiful church, an amazing view towards th Alps and of course it's legendary beer.
This was one of the best caches I've ever found.

I'll show St. Fanurius of Geo a truely holy cache which is worth his visit.
