About This Item

The tiny state of Delaware is located on the northeastern portion of the Delmarva Peninsula, USA. "Del-Mar-Va” stands for the name of the east coast peninsula that is comprised of the State of DELaware, the Eastern Shore of MARyland, and the Eastern Shore of VirginiA. Thomas Jefferson compared Delaware to a diamond; small but very valuable due to its strategic location on the Eastern Seaboard. The capital of “The Diamond State” is Dover, home of the Dover Air Force Base.

Only 96 miles long and 35 miles at its widest point, Delaware has only three counties; New Castle, Kent, and Sussex. It is the second smallest state in the U.S. (only Rhode Island is smaller). Though small in size, Delawareans are extremely proud of their forefathers’ role in the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. On December 17, 1787, Delaware was the first state to ratify (sign) the Constitution of the United States, so it is literally and undisputedly “The First State”.

Couldn’t find a cache to drop it in while in San Francisco yesterday, so I brought it with me to Seattle. Before finding a cache for it, I made sure to bring it to HQ with me.
