Current Goal

First, please do not keep this Trackable! It has set off with the Coast Guard in honor of my father who was in the Coast Guard during WWII. This Travel Buddy recognizes the eight ice breakers in service during WWII, and one of them specifically - the USCGC Eastwind that my dad served on. The Eastwind ferried 200 US army troops which captured the last German weather station in Greenland, Edelweiss II, on 4 October 1944. She also seized the German trawler Externsteine, which was ressuplying the base. Dad was part of the 'prize crew' that took the Externsteine back to Boston. It was aledged to be the only German vessel captured during the entire war.

It would be great if this trackable could visit BOSTON (where the Externstein was taken), NEW LONDON CT (near the CG Academy), and geocaches near bases in SOUTH CAROLINA, TEXAS AND CALIFORNIA.

“Mingo” GC30 survives at the oldest active cache. This Terrain 1, Difficulty 1 geocache sits right off the interstate in Western Kansas. It was placed on May 11th, 2000. The cache has been logged more the 5,834 times since then. “Mingo” is a must-log for many geocachers and billed as a “quick stop for a long trip.” The Kansas Stasher placed the cache and it’s the 7th geocache ever placed, and the first in Kansas. There were 25 TB's listed as in the cache but not a one there. I decided that it would be best to visit but not stay. I will find a better place to rest.

Picked up the tracker US Cost Guard. We drive a commercial truck and go to bases all over the US. We will see if we can get this close to several bases before dropping this for others to enjoy.
