O emblema atual resulta da sobreposição de dois emblemas e não de uma fusão com a criação de um outro símbolo. O emblema do Benfica tem uma composição fortemente simbólica, a saber:
Um escudo bipartido com as cores do equipamento, a metade esquerda de cor vermelha e a direita de cor branca e que significam alegria, colorido e vivacidade como base de entusiasmo na luta em desporto;
Ao meio do escudo, um listão com a abreviatura (sigla) do nome do Clube, sobre uma bola de futebol, a principal razão de ser da nova agremiação desportiva;
Ao encimar o escudo uma águia de asas abertas, animal heráldico de grande significado autoridade, força, vitória e orgulho, símbolo de elevação de propósitos e de espírito de iniciativa;
Por baixo da águia, nas suas garras, entre ela e o escudo, uma faixa com a divisa E Pluribus Unum. Ao que parece, a divisa teria sido escolhida ou sugerida por Félix Bermudes, fazendo a apologia da união e do espírito de família que caracterizou a criação do Clube.
The current emblem results from the overlap of two emblems and not from a merger with the creation of another symbol. The emblem of Benfica has a strongly symbolic composition, namely:
A two-sided shield with the colors of the equipment, the left half red and the right white color, which means joy, color and liveliness as a base of enthusiasm in the sport fight; In the middle of the shield, a ribbon with the abbreviation ) of the name of the Club, on a soccer ball, the main reason for being of the new sporting association; When the shield is enclosed an eagle with open wings, heraldic animal of great significance authority, strength, victory and pride, symbol of elevation of purpose and a spirit of initiative Under the eagle, in its claws, between it and the shield, a banner with the motto E Pluribus Unum. It seems that the currency would have been chosen or suggested by Felix Bermudes, making the apology for the union and the family spirit that characterized the creation of the Club.
