Stand Firm Strike Hard

On the Accession of William and Mary in 1689, new regiments were raised to resist James II's attempt to regain the throne. On the Wirral Peninsula and around Chester, Henry Duke of Norfolk raised and equipped a new regiment. This regiment later became The 22nd Regiment of Foot, and in 1782 The Cheshire Regiment. On Saturday the 1st of September 2007 The 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment will merge with the Staffordshire Regiment and Worcester and Sherwood Forrester Regiment to form The MERCIAN REGIMENT. This will take place in Tamworth; the ancient capital of the Saxon Kingdom of Mercia. "Stand Firm Strike Hard"
