Current Goal

Please Rescue Boo-Boo From His Current Cache

Boo-Boo (aka "The Hook") was born in Lake Clear, NY, and he would like to come back here some day, but at the moment, he needs to take an extended...vacation. He would prefer a non-extradition country, but the far side of any border will do. Please take and upload photos of him in far off places (to be used as future alibis). He would like to come home when the statute of limitations has expired, in the spring of 2014.

Boo-Boo would like to see the world beyond the Adirondack Park, and to drink deep of the well of experience. He wants to swim in both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, skydive, surf, go skiing, boat down the Colorado, wrestle an alligator, sail beyond the horizon, play the slots at Caesar's Palace, eat spicy food and dance on Bourbon Street, meet a nice lady-gnome, and stay well-clear of the "Ceramic Mafia" which has people out looking for him. Any help you can give him will be appreciated.

About This Item

Behind the Boo-Boo lies a complex gnome

Boo-Boo is a tiny lawn-type gnome, indistinguishible from any other except for his missing right hand, which was lost in a mishap at "The Back Door" (a rough and tumble saloon which closed soon after his hasty departure, to be replaced by a fern-bar) in Saranac Lake, NY. He tends to be reticent about his past, and can take a while to warm up to strangers. He likes cold weather, mushroom soup, Ted Nugent, worms and bugs, and the "Quiller" books by Adam Hall.

I apologize for us not replacing your travel bug. I found the travel bug on my boyfriends desk when we were cleaning this week. I am going geocaching this week-end and will place it then.

Cool travel bug!!

This TB has been sitting in one cache for over three years, so time to get it moving...I made the climb and have brought it home to Massachusetts...

Couldn't resist returning Boo-Boo to the scene of his "incident". Hopefully he will enjoy the view from the cliffs above Giant's Washbowl until someone comes to spirit him away.

We just had to spring Boo-Boo from the "Jail". Little did we realize that he had only recently escaped from NY state! He is back in NY and is very nervous, feeling the heat from the ceramic mafia probably. I'll get him to a TB Hotel soon so he has a good chance of escaping again. We did share many Adirondack stories on the ride home to NY.

After an unexpected long visit with Jazzno and Q-tip, Boo-Boo(The Hook) is back on the road. Some of his experiences during his visit with us were documented in pictures which will be posted in the near future. After choosing Boo-Boo' next cache home, we realized we could not discuss it with him as the cache is at Jail Rock in western Nebraska. As he is hoping to continue his journey's until the statute of limitations has expired, informing him about a visit to Jail Rock could have been rather traumatic. Everything was done quietly and he showed no signs of stress. We wish him the best as he experiences new places and makes new friends.

Found Boo Boo with Q-tip and our daughter in our very first cache. He will have a special place in the history of our new adventure hobby. We began geocaching Saturday morning after a breakfast of incredible pancakes at Hokes. It was too early to indulge our sweet teeth on Spruce Steet. Consistent with how we usually do things, we jump in with both feet so decided to release Boo Boo from the dark old cache and have him teach us about travel bugs even while we were figuring out how to geocache. He seemed to really appreciate getting back on the move. The rest of the day was spent at our retreat at Big Mac Lake. There was not much going on but after his recent interesting adventures on horse back he seemed quite content to just stand around in quiet contemplation. On Sunday Boo Boo accompanied us home. He will stay just a couple of days and take in a few more sites in the Panhandle of Nebraska. Tonight we are having Chinese and I am sure the table conversation will turn to Boo Boo's fun adventures since leaving New York State. Since we spent 11 years living in Vermont I am sure we will have lots of common memories. We will try to figure out how to further chronicle Boo Boo's time with us and maybe add some pictures. Thanks giving us the opportunity to meet Boo Boo, as with all our new friends he will enrich our lives.

As I write this, Boo-Boo is no longer with us. No, he's not dead. He's just moved on.

This afternoon, we took Boo-Boo for a ride to Ogallala, Nebraska. A lot of the "Old West" happened right here in Ogallala. We thought that a trip to Ogallala might persuade Boo-Boo that the cowboy life was for him. Boy, were we wrong.

Our catastrophic error in judgment was taking Boo-Boo to "Boot Hill". We thought that he would enjoy it... an authentic piece of old west history... until it dawned on us that Boot Hill is an Old West cemetery. A dead cowboy cemetery. A cemetery where cowboys were buried with their 'boots on'. On top of all this, the temperature today on Boot Hill was about 95 degrees F. (As you might recall, Boo-Boo isn't too fond of the heat.)

This was just too much for Boo-Boo to take. He wanted to move on... NOW. Just as well. I was in the mood for ice cream anyway.

We knew that there was a cache hidden at a great ice cream shop in Ogallala, so we took the opportunity to have an ice cold refreshing treat while setting Boo-Boo free. Boo-Boo was so excited to be leaving 'cowboy country' that he didn't even join us in an ice cream cone. He just jumped into the cozy ammo box... awaiting his next adventure. Our goodbyes were quick... subtle... and without expression. I'm gonna miss the little guy, and I think he's gonna miss us, too.

REFLECTIONS... (this is best read with "Happy Trails" playing softly in the background. If you don't have the original Dale Evans / Roy Rogers version available, Van Halen's version would work, too... just be sure to crank up the volume if using the latter)

Boo-Boo had a great time visiting the Syriaca family, but it's time for him to move on. He's learned quite a bit about North Platte and the Sandhills during his eventful visit.

For the past few days, Boo-Boo has made subtle comments about not becoming a cowboy. It's probably for the best. I've seen a lot of cowboys, and none of them have been tiny yard gnomes. Not that a tiny yard gnome COULDN'T be a cowboy, but I think you know what I'm saying.

We've been looking for a cache worthy of Boo-Boo's presence. We found one that would work well, but we forgot Boo-Boo's Baggie. We found another one that would work well, but we forgot Boo-Boo's Baggie... and we forgot Boo-Boo. We found another one today... we had Boo-Boo... we had Boo-Boo's Baggie, but there was absolutely no room in the cache. Also, this one was a multi, and we're thinking that a quick find near the Interstate would have the best chance of getting Boo-Boo mobile once again.

We're planning a trip to Southern Colorado soon, but it would be best to part with Boo-Boo before then. It just feels right. He needs to move on. He has a lot to do. (not quite sure what, however) He has a lot to see. It's time to go.

As I gently wipe a tear from my eye (ok... I'm being dramatic), I leave you with these parting words:

Happy Trails, by Dale Evans and Roy Rogers

Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.
Happy trails to you, 'till we meet again.

Some trails are happy ones,
Others are blue.
It's the way you ride the trail that counts,
Here's a happy one for you.

Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.

Happy trails to you, 'till we meet again.

  • A new friend Actually... they were both petrified!
  • Posing with the props Boo-Boo posing with some select items from his trip to Hyannis during Windmill Days in Hyannis.
  • REFLECTIONS... A song came on the radio... It might have been Aerosmith. Maybe it was Motley Crue. Perhaps it was Steve Winwood. I don't really remember because I was taken aback with what I saw. I clearly remember the look in his eye. He met the sudden realization that real cowboys don't listen to rock. His dreams of cow-poking were crushed at that very moment. "It's time to go", he said. "It's time to go."
