 Patchy wants to see as many of Earth's famous observatories as he can. He also wants to see the some of those owned by individuals or other astronomy clubs.

About This Item

Patchy after receiving his travel bug implant

Patchy is our first travel bug. Looking at him tells the story of his humble beginnings as the logo for our local astronomy club. He has been sitting in a drawer in my desk for the last 3 years as I was not sure what I wanted to do with him. When we started geocaching, his purpose finally became clear to me. He needs to see the world, go far places and see lots of other telescopes. Some of his personal goals include seeing the stars of the southern hemisphere and maybe one day Earth from the Moon or Mars. Who knows, maybe even make it back home some day so he can tell us of his journeys. If you move him and have a digital camera, try to post a pic or two of Patchy at the sites you take him to. Grabbed this gem and took it back with me to VA. I haven't narrowed down a locale yet, but rest assured it will rest somewhere exciting/appropriate.

My daughter took it to school (sunset jr. high room 222) with her as planned but the club did not start up yet for the new year so it only visited the room, not a club meeting. We took it on an afternoon picnic as we did some geocaching. I intended to take some pictures, unfortunately i took to many and my camera battery ran out before I got a pic of the sunset or stars so I only have a pic of the view at afternoon hours.

My daughter found this with me and decided she wanted to take it. School will be starting here in a week, and my daughter plans to take it to astronomy club. after that we plan to leave in in a cache that is as close as we can find to one of our favorite places to have late afternoon picnics and watch the sun set. I will update then and maybee have a pic or two.
