This cache has been archived.

bluepant: Retiring many of my caches to open up spots for new caches. I haven't had time to go caching or maintain my caches lately. This series was fun. Once I get time to cache again, I'll be hiding some new ones.

History:

The Canton Bulldogs were a very powerful team through the early 1900s while in the Ohio football league dominating everyone they played. In 1920, the American Professional Football Association (which in 1922 was renamed to the NFL) was organized and Jim Thorpe (Bulldogs head coach at the time) was appointed the first permanent president. After a few respectable seasons the Bulldogs hired Guy Chamberlin to be the head coach. Guy rebuilt the Bulldogs and won back to back NFL championships (the first 2 championships under the new named NFL). In 1923 the Bulldogs were moved to Cleveland. After winning yet another championship as the Cleveland Bulldogs, the Bulldogs were sold back to a group of Canton investors. Now back, the Canton Bulldogs struggled to retain championship status and went 4-4-0 during the 1925 season and a terrible 1-9-3 during the 1926 season. The NFL decided to remove 12 of the weaker franchises just before the 1927 season. This was the end of the Canton Bulldogs, but they continue to be a part of NFL history since they still hold (as of 2009) the record for the most games straight without defeat (which was set when the bulldogs played 25 straight games without defeat from 1921-1923). Also due to the Canton Bulldog’s early success and the Pro Football Hall of Fame is located in their home town.

Now about the cache: Since we are in preseason, we won’t be playing our best players. So, this cache should be an easy find.

About The Series:

"ROAD TO THE SUPER BOWL"

Welcome to the NFL football season. What would the NFL season be like without a new football cache series to find? Throughout the football weeks, bluepant and mob1971, will be hiding a series of different style NFL team caches. These caches hope to excite the football fanatics and also teach the not so football savvy some things about each team. These caches will provide clues and information to our Super Bowl cache finale called "Road to the Super Bowl"

PRESEASON GAMES (Teaser caches, does not include the needed hints for the series finale cache):
DALLAS TEXANS and CANTON BULLDOGS

Series Finale:
Stage 1 – Playbook
Stage 2 – Super Bowl

Each cache will contain a trivia question about that team that could be critical to finding the final cache "Road to the Super Bowl". Please make sure you take time to read your playbook and keep up with the questions and answers in preparation for the FINAL exam. Please DO NOT POST any of the answers or questions in your logs. If you have any questions regarding the trivia questions, feel free to email bluepant or mob1971. The FINAL playbook will contain a variety of questions from the above caches in order to obtain the "Road to the Super Bowl" coordinates (HINT: Answers to FINAL playbook will come from a number of caches you found during the season, so I would hate for you to try to skip one or two of the caches and miss a question). Have fun and enjoy this series.
