Step 1               

Find each individual geocache in the Pier Pressure series.  On the log sheet for each cache you will find a clue.  Collect all the clues, then move on to Step 2.  Following are links to the caches:

Step 2             

Note:  Street names in the descriptions below are hidden to protect the extra-clever.  Proceed as follows:

1. Add all the individual digits of your starting latitude.  Save this number as "A".

2. Add all the individual digits of your starting longitude.  Save this number as "B".

3. Walk south to the pond.

4. Continue south and check out the arch on S---- Avenue.  How many lions are there?  Be sure to look at all sides!

            1 (C = 29)

            3 (C = 33)

            5 (C = 70)

            6 (C = 65)

5. From the arch, turn east and walk half a block ESE along the row of flats to numbers 12 and 14.  The sign there indicates that only permit holders can park from:

            7 AM to 5 PM (D = 56)

            Noon to 6 PM (D = 90)

            Monday through Friday (D = 72)

            9 AM to 8 PM (D = 81)

6. Turn right at the next corner and proceed down to E------ Road.  Just before getting there, stop and play some:

            Note: It may help to walk around the building a bit!

7. Walk about 3 1/2 blocks SE to the hospital.  Across E------ from the main hospital entrance, you will find the:

            Out-patients' Department (F = 54)

8. Time for a leg stretcher!  From the hospital, head on over to a popular attraction.  As the crow flies, that would be about 4,540 feet at 283 degrees.  How many annual visitors does this attraction receive?

9. Continue closer to your final destination by walking SSE past the pool to the checkered intersection.  Here, buy a pastry and fresh fruit snack from:

10. Just a bit further down and you will see your destination very prominently, pointing almost due south like a giant arrow (try the satellite view to be sure you have found it).  As you stand in the street right in front of the entrance, looking south, what do you see above the destination's name?

            An American and a state flag (I = 77)

            A large model of a jet airliner (I = 58)

            A clock tower (I = 59)

            A statue of the destination's creator (I = 46)

11. What is the approximate length of your destination?

            5,085 feet (J = 52)

12. From the southern tip, look about 3,785 feet away at 296 degrees.  The similar structure there is a:

13. Geocaching time!  About half way out the main destination is a fairly old geocache.  What is the recommended method for finding it?

Approaching the cache location from the road to the east is likely your best bet.

Hint:  The following notes may make your Google Earth experience more helpful:

• Be sure to upgrade to the latest version.

• If you haven't used the integrated Street View feature, check out this video.

• As you work, especially when exiting Street View, make sure north is reoriented correctly.  The quickest way to do that is to click on the "N" part of the rotation tool in the upper right corner.

• Also when exiting Street View, the satellite image may be tilted.  Returning to a direct overhead view will make navigation easier.  To do that, hold down the scroll wheel on your mouse and move the cursor up (or use the navigation controls in the top right corner).

• You will need to switch back and forth between the satellite image and the Street Views.  Don't try to do everything from just one or the other.

• When in Street View, if you don't see what you are looking for, you can try walking along the street by using your mouse scroll wheel to move backward and forward along the street.  Very cool!

• In the "Layers" panel, be sure "Roads" is checked.  If you don't see street names on the images, try scrolling out (to a higher elevation) a click or two.

• For steps 6 and 10, the Ruler Tool may be useful.  Click "Tools" and then "Ruler".  Further information is available online.

• The Geocache Google Earth Viewer is a great tool, and may help with step 11.  You can install it from your Profile page.

• You can switch the latitude/longitude coordinate format to the one used for geocaching.  Click "Tools", then "Options".  Select the "Degrees, Decimal Minutes" option in the "Show Lat/Long" box.  Familiar format coordinates will then display at the bottom of the satellite images.

Fantastic First-to-Find prize!!  The log sheet for this cache contains the original name that I had planned to use for the series.  I changed the name after deciding it might give too much away.  The first cacher to email me that original name will be awarded their choice of:

• A one-year subscription (or extension) to FTF Geocacher Magazine.

• A one-year Groundspeak gift membership (or extension).

Additional requirement for the prize:  I am anticipating that the final puzzle will be solvable without all of the clues from the individual caches.  Therefore, in addition to providing the original name, it will also be a requirement that all of the caches in the series be logged by the prize winner.  I will add "Note" logs to this cache as more puzzles are available, so adding this listing to your Watchlist might prove beneficial.  Good luck!
