Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the above listed coordinates.
Part of the Finding Pluto Series, you must locate Mars and apply the offset.
See Finding Pluto for the full story.

Ceres was the largest known asteroid located in the Asteroid Belt, a region between Mars and Jupiter. Discovered in 1801, Ceres was reclassified into a dwarf planet along with Pluto in 2006 by the International Astronomical Union or IAU. Ceres is small, about 600 miles across with a relative size of a small BB.

Dwarf planets are considered celestial bodies that;
• orbit the sun,
• and are nearly spherical in shape (because of their own gravity)
• and are not satellites other planets
• and have Not “cleared the neighborhood” of smaller objects or created a gravitational dominance of their orbital zone.

The Asteroid Belt contains upwards of a million objects over one half mile in diameter. It is believed that the belt is remnants of a failed formation of a planet, disrupted from the gravitational pull of the nearby giant, Jupiter.

Though this region has the highest concentration of asteroids and meteoroids, man-made satellites have successfully navigated through it unscathed and hopefully so will you.

To find Ceres make the following adjustments to Mars’s decimal minutes.
Subtract .098 from the North
Add .082 to the West
