Event is on
Saturday
Goal: To hike the last 23km of the
Iroquoia section of the Bruce Trail. The
Iroquoia section is a total of 120.8km in
length.
This is the 11th Bruce Trail hike in this series of BT events.
We plan to continue with the Iroquoia section. The total distance
of the Iroquoia section is 120.8km long and we will be hiking the
last 23km of it to complete this section of the Bruce Trail.
For future hikes, see the schedule listed at the end of the
event listing. We plan on doing about 2 or 3 hikes a year in order
to complete my goal of finishing the entire Bruce Trail on my 50th
birthday.
I estimate that the entire hike will take about 7 hours to
complete, so we should be done around 4:00pm. This is at a moderate
3km\h pace.
If you can't make the entire hike, maybe join us for part of it
atleast. You can always drop out along the way if you feel it's too
difficult or too long.
Meet at 9:00am at the posted
coordinates, which is the 98.5km mark (Edition 26 of Bruce
Trail guide) of the Iroquoia section of the Bruce Trail behind the
Kilbride School at Optimist Park. We plan to start hiking around
9:15am.
Destination is the 120.8km mark
(Edition 26 of Bruce Trail guide) of the Iroquoia section of the
Bruce Trail which is where Applyeby Line goes under the 401
(N43° 30.249
W79°
57.384).
Parking:
Beginning: Parking lot behind the Kilbride School at
Optimist Park has room for about 20 cars. End: There
is no parking allowed anywhere along the roads here. Only places to
park would be at Kelso (enter from Tremaine) or at Hilton Falls
both of which are $6.25 per person and the gates close at 5pm.
Bruce Trail memberships no longer allow you to get in for free. I
could not find definite information on their web site, but when
Kelso becomes Glen Eden then parking\entrance to Kelso\Glen Eden is
free and the gates are usually open longer during ski season (if
someone finds out, let me know and I will update the information
here). Another option is to park at one of the 2 parking lots on
6th Line (N43 32.199 W79 58.708) which is about a 5km walk north of
the end point. Another possible suggestion is to park on
Campbellville Ave (N43 29.794 W79 58.198) near where it goes under
the 401. This is 1 block (1.7km) west of the end point of the hike
(Note that Halton Region does have a 3 hr roadside parking
limit).
Hopefully some people will park at the end and carpool back to the
starting point both before and after the hike.
What you should bring: Water and other
drinks. Food for lunch, dinner and snacks. GPS. Maps. Camera. Cell
Phone. First Aid Kit. Advil/Tylenol.
It might be wise to stash some supplies at certain locations of
your choice along the trail so that you don't have to carry
everything with you.
Track our progress as we hike
the trail. Don't feel up for the hike, then join us by watching our
progress as we go along. Screen will update couple of minutes, but
our progress will be updated every hour or so. Thanks to
northerpenguin for setting this up.
