It's a good thing SH144 doesn't have any power lines near this cache, as the Okie Air Force F-16 made a picture-perfect landing on the highway, then taxied to this cache and on to retirement after travelling over 27,000 miles. Although it narrowly missed a rendezvous with the Okie AF SR-71 Blackbird at Oshkosh 2007, it nonetheless completed it's missions. How fitting that its next to last leg found its way to a Wright-Patterson AFB employee, SM325, who made sure that it got a proper briefing, and who also made sure that it had the correct vectors back home. Thanks, SM!
The F-16's permanent home will be back in Honobia, OK, near where it launched from Cavanal Hill.

Today is your lucky day, my friend. I am a Wright-Patterson AFB employee. I am going to take about a week and show you all around WPAFB. Yes, you'll be in all the photos which I will post online. Once your visit is done, I am going to send you on your way back home. It is a shame your vertical stablizer has come off. We will do a little repair so you can once again change your yaw.

  • Area B, Wright Patterson AFB I tried to get the F-16 out on a tour of the base earlier, but the rain kept us indoors. So in the meantime, we visited my building, office and classified facilities. We also visited the Foreign Military Sales office to let the F-16 hob nob with those folks who sell F-16s to other countries. When then took him to Hooters for lunch and some heavy duty socializing!

The sun was out today so we took in the sites of WPAFB. We took the F-16 to the flight line where actual F-16s once flew (now at
  • Wright B flyer ....Springfield ANG base). Unfortunately, photography was not permitted there. We then went to Area B which is the R & D megacenter for the USAF. Here he is at the Wright Brothers exhibit at the entrance to Area B.
  • Building 556 Here he is at the building where the F-16 program resides. Look how easily he minics the maneuvers of his big brother!

OK, so maybe its not near my house next to Wright Patt, but at least its a bit more southwards. Its next to a major highway so it should be on its way soon.

I live near Wright Patt. I'll have to check out all the stories in the logs(from quick glance it looks like its already completed its goals and seen lots of places) then drop it off at a cache near my house.

Glad somebody grabbed it! I was going to have to grab it again and drive it south to get it moving since he seemed to be stuck in that cache.....

Very cool. It has now had it's vacation in beautiful Oshkosh, WI. Since it was from Wright-Patterson and the vacation is over, I'll try to return it closer to Wright-Patterson.
