These caches do not need to be done in order, but
the story flows a logical sense when read in order.
All parts of this story assume Advanced Dungeons
& Dragons 2nd Edition Rules – Monstrous Manual reference. I
know it is archaic now, but the story was written with that
universe in mind.
DRAGONS OF LETHBRIDGE
Few people nowadays remember,
and there are fewer records still about the Dragons of
Lethbridge. Lethbridge provided one of the best breeding grounds and
terrain for Dragons of days gone by. They had been pushed out of
their traditional breeding grounds in Europe, fled from China, and
moved north through the continent from the warmer, more southern
climes to the area of Lethbridge.
The summers were hot, the
winters cold, but the coulee and the Oldman River (during this time known as the
Belly River) provided ample grounds for a small
population of Dragons to flourish. Alas, over time, a great many of
them have vanished, but some clues can be found among the
rubble-strewn areas, where now a highway runs
through.
Part III – the
Diplomat
Living to the south of these
incidents was a very old dragon, and a good one at that. He was
kind-hearted, good natured and loved to talk. He talked so much, in
fact, that people tended to avoid him, lest they got caught in
hours upon hours of conversation. It seemed that he remembered the
days long before man had come to settle these
parts.
Gaikou – a name that he picked
up living in the Orient – was approached by the representative from
CP Rail. CP Rail asked if he would intercede on humanity’s behalf
to stop Suututtaa and attempt to repair the damaged relations
between humans and dragons. After much deliberation, during which
Gaikou was uncharacteristically quiet, he made a very long winded
speech about the need for Draconian-Human relations to flourish, as
they were both trying to occupy the same space.
Three hours of talking later,
he finally accepted the arrangement.
Gaikou set off on a foggy
September morning to speak with Suututtaa. The humans on the ground
were terrified to hear not only one set of dragon’s wings in the
hidden sky, but two. Residents feared the worst when Gaikou did not
return for many days. On the eve of the ninth day, he returned to
his lair and urgently summoned the representative of CP
Rail.
Gaikou had been very badly
burned and greatly injured, though he told no one why. The
representative arrived as Gaikou approached the brink of death, and
whispered his final words into the ear of the whitening human.
Gaikou breathed his last, wishing for peace between the races, but
lamenting that he could not bring it.
The CP Rail representative ran
from Gaikou’s lair, and immediately began making preparations in
every settlement and town with which he could communicate. His
message was simple:
“The Villain
Approaches”
To find the Diplomat’s
lair:
Believe it or not, there is
more than enough information above to determine the type of dragon
the Diplomat represented.
From the posted
coordinates:
Subtract: (The maximum damage for the main breath
weapon of a 12th level dragon + 75) from the
northing.
Subtract: (The experience points for slaying a first
level dragon of this type / 7326) from the westing.
