Geocache Description:

This cache series follows the route of one of Iowa’s most ambitious road building programs – the plank road between Burlington and Mount Pleasant. Several historical markers commemorate the Plank Road route. These were placed by various chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Successful completers of this series will be able to collect the clues to a special bonus cache in the area.

Toll Booth #8 - This is the final stop on the Old Plank Road (unless you are going after the BONUS CACHE). Congratulations to BJCheryl on FTF! This cache is located on private property by permission of the landowner. If you look to the northeast from this cache site you will see a new gas station (currently under construction). An important plank road landmark was once located near the site you are looking at - where once stood a farm owned by Raymond and Lusena (Gilyeart) Kerr. A spring, known to the plank road traveler as “Ross’s Spring,” once provided hundreds of gallons of water a day for the Gilyeart’s and Kerr’s before it was said to have been contaminated by a nearby hog confinement. For the plank road traveler, it was a favorite watering place on the road, which entered Mount Pleasant at this point. The spring, now most likely covered by the highway interchange, once fed into the creek near this cache site.
