TREKKING TRAVERSE
TRAILS
Part of the Traverse Area Recreational Trail system, the 15.5 mile
Leelanau Trail is a non-motorized pathway connecting Traverse City
at its southern end point with Suttons Bay at its northern end
point. Running through the last of Leelanau County's former
railroad corridors, the Leelanau Trail creates the perfect setting
for transportation, recreation and environmental education. The
route stretches through rolling hills, lush forests, picturesque
orchards, peaceful meadows and an aquatic medley of streams, lakes
and ponds.
There are three trailheads along the trail: on Cherry Bend Road,
on Fouch Road, and at 4th Street in Suttons Bay. The trail is
currently paved for about 8.5 miles and unpaved for about 7 miles.
The paved sections are from M-72 West in Traverse City to Lakeview
Road in Elmwood Township and again from Revold Road in Bingham
Township to the depot in Suttons Bay. The unpaved surface is a
hard-packed dirt two-track.
It is not necessary to
jump through the sticker/pamphlet hoops to log this
cache.
We got the idea for our Trekking Traverse Trails series from a
similar series in Florida. As a reward for the first 50 who wish
one and who complete the series, we have created a Path Tag on
which is the Traverse City logo. To acquire a tag, stop at the
Traverse City Visitors Center(
GC17HZ4), and pick up a free Trekking Traverse Trails
brochure.
In each cache container you will find a sticker for that cache.
Paste each of the ten stickers in the brochure, mail it in, and we
will sent you your tag.
