This is a book I grew up with, my dad being a Biology
teacher, and the picture had my mind spinning at very early age ..
I just could not work it out!
Ok, I am going to answer this for anyone who does not know the
answer, based on biology.
A chicken is made up of DNA and all chickens have the same
DNA.
When male sperm fertilise female egg they produce a
'zygote' , a single cell from which the chick will
grow.
This one cell zygote has chicken DNA that then makes all other
cells chicken DNA cells.
The only way this can change if is the of one of the parents is
different, 'a non chicken', or the DNA used to create the zygote
has 'mutated' for some reason. The likely hood is that the 1st
chicken was created by two non chicken parents, whose DNA when
combined at fertilisation produced the DNA of chicken for the first
time, so the egg that contained that chicken was the first chicken
egg.
So it can be said that the egg came first .. or can it! ....b
ecause the egg was laid by a non chicken, so was not a chicken egg!
so the chicken came 1st and then laid the 1st chicken egg, (as in
thet 1st egg laid by a chicken rather than containing one!)
