Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Ruddy Doctor Caches, a series of puzzles linked together loosely with a whimsical story following the various regenerations of my favourite Time Lord.

The puzzles are nestled away in passages linking the various Doctor’s regeneration scenes, so you’ll need to skim at least through to find the goods and the occasional clue. You can assume coordinates are N 52° 53.XXX' W 001° 0XxXXX' and will need you own pen and tweezers. All were conceived and placed by Doctor RuddRobins + checked and difficulty assessed by Mrs RuddRobins.

The notes at the end are random Docfacts not needed to complete the puzzle. I hope you find it all mildly amusing and it keeps you out of trouble for at least a little while J

The Ruddy Doctor 6: The Sixth Doctor

(The brash new form of the Doctor seemed inordinately pleased with himself)

DOCTOR: Well, what do you think?

YOU: It's terrible.

DOCTOR: Oh, never mind about the clothes, they're easily changed. What about me?

YOU: I meant you.

DOCTOR: Sorry? I'm afraid I don't understand.

YOU: Well, neither do I. I mean, people don't change like that. I mean, physically, just in a flash.

DOCTOR: I'm not people. I happen to be me.

YOU: But why?

DOCTOR: Natural metamorphosis. A form of rebirth. I call it a renewal, and this time, positive triumph. I can sense it in every fibre of my being.

YOU: Have you the faintest idea what you look like?

DOCTOR: My outward appearance is of no importance whatsoever.

YOU: Well, it is to me. I have to live with it.

(you find a mirror - from somewhere)

YOU: Here, look at yourself.

DOCTOR: Very well, if you insist.

YOU: What do you see?

DOCTOR: Ah. A noble brow. Clear gaze. At least it will be, given a few hours sleep. A firm mouth. A face beaming with a vast intelligence. What on Earth are you complaining about? And if I look a little closer, a layer down . . . yes the answer is there: you'd have to be blind, my girl!

(He gives the mirror back.)

DOCTOR: Solved already – see, it's the most extraordinary improvement.

YOU: On what?

DOCTOR: My last incarnation. I was never happy with that one.

YOU: Why ever not?

DOCTOR: It had a sort of feckless charm, which simply wasn't me.

YOU: You were almost young. I really liked you. And you were sweet and

DOCTOR: Sweet? Effete. Sweet? Sweet? Sweet? Huh, that says it all. But – surely not already – they can’t want to get rid of me already?

(The Doctor rushes to the control room and staggers to the controls)

YOU: You're not looking at all well, Doctor. Timtime perhaps for a bracing glass of carrot juice . . .

DOCTOR: Oh. Carrot juice? Carrot juice, carrot juice, carrot juice. [those really were his last words on TV]

(He slumps against the console and activates the view screen. On it appears a figure cowled in black. It is the Valyard, a ‘potential’ incarnation of the Doctor bringing together all his negative elements)

DOCTOR: No, I deny you – I would rather end in ignominy that ever become you. I will force my end first!

(The Doctor guides the TARDIS’ wild oscillation through the vortex, tossed into a sea of radiation fatal to Time Lords)

VALYARD: You’ve robbed yourself of a future!

DOCTOR: A future as you? That’s no future at all . . .

VALYARD: You can’t let me die, I’m part of you!

DOCTOR: You’re nothing to me

VALYARD: What about your precious moral scruples?

DOCTOR: They die with me. So this is it. Well, I had a good innings . . .

Shade of the 7^th DOCTOR: It’s far from being over

DOCTOR: Change! I feel it, yes. I WILL regenerate. My future is in safe hands

(A series of energy bolts hit the Tardis while it is in flight, the Doctor collapses by the control console and his features begin to blur and change . . .)

Notes

The sixth Doctor's regeneration was initially unstable, and he nearly strangled Peri before he came to his senses. Never understated, the Sixth Doctor was an explosion of colours, words and emotions. Passionate, sometimes quick to anger, this was a Doctor you did not want to make enemies with.

The Doctor was pulled out of time to a Time Lord space station where he was put on trial for the second time by his own race, the Time Lords. In reality the trial was a cover-up organised by the High Council. Where the prosecutor (the Valeyard) turned out to be a possible future evil incarnation of the Doctor himself who was out to steal his remaining lives.

When the TARDIS is attacked by the Rani, the Sixth Doctor was somehow injured and regenerated into the Seventh Doctor; the exact cause of the regeneration, however, has never been revealed on-screen. In 2015, Big Finish Productions released The Sixth Doctor: The Last Adventure, an audio drama depicting the events leading up to the Sixth Doctor's death and regeneration.

After a series of encounters with the Valeyard over the course of his life, the Sixth Doctor is essentially 'replaced' by the Valeyard, who had planted parasitic creatures in the TARDIS's telepathic circuits that formed a link with the Doctor over the course of his life, trapping the last fragments of the Doctor's personality in the Matrix.

Faced with the prospect that the Valeyard, who has already replaced the Doctor's timeline, will go on to do the same thing to every other Time Lord in history, the Sixth Doctor sends a message from the Matrix to his own past self, diverting the younger Doctor to travel to the planet Lakertya shortly before the Valeyard originally took over his timeline.

As a result, the younger Doctor is exposed to radiation that is deadly to Time Lords, with his death and subsequent regeneration into the Seventh Doctor killing the parasites, stopping the Valeyard from succeeding with his plan as the regeneration 'kills' the link the parasites had created to the Doctor, but also setting up the events of Time and the Rani.
