Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Ruddy Doctor Caches, a series of puzzles linked together loosely with a whimsical story following the various regenerations of my favourite Time Lord.

The puzzles are nestled away in passages linking the various Doctor’s regeneration scenes, so you’ll need to skim at least through to find the goods and the occasional clue. You can assume coordinates are N 52° 53.XXX' W 001° XX.XXX' and will need you own pen and tweezers. All were conceived and placed by Doctor RuddRobins + checked and difficulty assessed by Mrs RuddRobins.

The notes at the end are random Docfacts not needed to complete the puzzle. I hope you find it all mildly amusing and it keeps you out of trouble for at least a little while J

The Ruddy Doctor 15: The Twelveth Doctor

(TARDIS)

(The new DOCTOR stares, then he jerks back and forward again.)

DOCTOR: Kidneys! I've got new kidneys. I don't like the colour.

YOU: Of your kidneys?

(The Tardis starts lurching from side to side.)

YOU: What's happening?

DOCTOR: We're probably crashing. Oh!

YOU: Into what?

DOCTOR: Stay calm. Just one question. Do you happen to know how to fly this thing? I was being chased by a Saturn V, but I think I managed to give it the slip.

(The Doctor walks towards you)

DOCTOR: Oh, you. Er. Thingy. The, er, the not-me one. The asking questions one. Names not my area.

YOU: <you give your name>

DOCTOR: Well, it might be that. Might not be. It's a lottery.

YOU: It is that.

DOCTOR: Well, I'm not ruling it out.

YOU: Doctor. You need to calm down. I think something's gone wrong.

DOCTOR: Wrong? What's gone wrong? Have you regenerated? I remember you. You're Handles. You used to be a little, a little robot head, and now you. You've really let yourself go. What’s this puzzle we’re supposed to be solving – I distinctly remember this puzzle taking off before you all went wrong:

(The Doctor types a string of numbers out)

040468/022167/122168 – 040468 – 022167/101168/012268

YOU: Yes Doctor, concentrate on that, it doesn’t matter if you can’t distinguish me from a robot head - I suppose . . .

DOCTOR: Well, you're very similar heights. Maybe you should wear labels? Why, why are you all doing that? Why are you? You're all going dark and wobbly. Stop that.

YOU: I don't think we are.

DOCTOR: Never mind. Everyone take five.

(The DOCTOR closes his eyes, sways, then falls over. Some time later he sits up in bed)

(Nightime, with a full moon, the Doctor is now wearing a full length night shirt. He looks up.)

DOCTOR: We choose to go to the moon not because it’s easy, but because it’s hard. It's simply misunderstandable to me. I don't know what it is. Who invented this room?

YOU: Doctor, please, you have to lie down.

DOCTOR: It doesn't make sense. Look, it's only got a bed in it. Why is there only a bed in it?

YOU: Because it's a bed room. It's for sleeping in.

DOCTOR: Okay, what do you do when you're awake?

YOU: You leave the room.

DOCTOR: So you've got a whole room for not being awake in. But what's the point? You're just missing the room. And don't look in that mirror. It's absolutely furious. I don't usually bother with sleep, and I just do standy-up catnaps.

YOU: When do you do those?

DOCTOR: Well, generally whenever anyone else starts talking. I like to skip ahead to my bits. It saves time. I solved the puzzle while you were replying to the last bit – I should be shuffled along to my next regeneration any time . . .  now

(The scene goes wibbly-wobbly and we’re at the end of the Twelfth Doctor’s run)

YOU: Do you know what the hardest thing about knowing you was?

DOCTOR: My superior intelligence. My dazzling charisma. Oh! My impeccable dress sense.

YOU: Letting you go. Letting go of the DOCTOR is so, so hard, isn't it? Got a suggestion for you, then.

DOCTOR: Oh, there's a novelty.

YOU: Don't die. Because if you do, I think everybody in the universe might just go cold.

DOCTOR: Can't I ever have peace? Can't I rest?

YOU: Of course you can. It's your choice. Only yours. I understand.

DOCTOR: No. No, you don't. A life this long, do you understand what it is? It's a battlefield, like this one, and it's empty. Because everyone else has fallen. Thank you. Thank you for everything that you were to me. What happens now, where I go now, it has be alone. Time to leave the battlefield.

[Tardis]

(The Tardis dematerialises.)

DOCTOR: Oh, there it is. The silly old universe. The more I save it, the more it needs saving. It's a treadmill.

(The Tardis beeps, flashes and burbles at him.)

DOCTOR: Yes, yes, I know. They'll get it all wrong without me. I suppose one more lifetime wouldn't kill anyone. Well, except me.

(The Cloister Bell tolls.)

DOCTOR: You wait a moment, DOCTOR. Let's get it right. I've got a few things to say to you. Basic stuff first. Never be cruel, never be cowardly, and never, ever eat pears! Remember, hate is always foolish - and love is always wise. Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind. Oh, and you mustn't tell anyone your name. No one would understand it, anyway. Except, ah! (collapses) Except children. Children can hear it sometimes. If their hearts are in the right place, and the stars are too, children can hear your name. Argh! But nobody else. Nobody else, ever. Laugh hard, run fast, be kind.

DOCTOR, I let you go.

(The regeneration streams out of him, causing Tardis systems to go bang.)

Notes

Granted a whole new regenerative cycle by the Time Lords, the Doctor experienced an explosive and unprecedented thirteenth regeneration, ending the Siege of Trenzalore. A new Doctor - with a sharp face, bushy brows and boggle eyes - faced a bewildered Clara, across the console. A Doctor who has seemingly forgotten how to fly the TARDIS!

A trip back to Gallifrey (after spending several billions year alone in the Confession Dial) saw the secret of the mythical Hybrid unveiled and a confrontation with the immortal Ashildr at the end of the universe. After enjoying a few years off from saving the universe with his wife River Song, the Twelfth Doctor took on a teaching position at St. Luke’s University in Bristol where he met the inquisitive Bill Potts. With Nardole helping him guard The Vault (containing Missy), the trio embarked on numerous adventures in space and time.

And then came a fierce battle with Mondasian Cybermen – started by the return of a previous incarnation of The Master – which prompted Time Lord’s regeneration. The Doctor was able to fight it off long enough to meet his original self, the First Doctor, and embark on a partnership which would end in both men regenerating.

The Twelfth Doctor's general outfit consists of a navy blue Crombie coat with a crimson lining, dark blue trousers, a long collared white shirt buttoned to the top, a black cardigan or waistcoat, and brogue boots. His shirt varies from episode to episode, with a navy shirt, a dark purple shirt and a black shirt with white polka dots appearing, as well as a black holey jumper, all being worn under his coat in his first series. He also wears a hoodie over his jumper as of series nine, over his T-shirt all being worn under his coat. In "Time Heist", the Doctor describes his costume as "hoping for minimalism, but I think I came up with magician."
