Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Ruddy Doctor Caches, a series of puzzles linked together loosely with a whimsical story following the various regenerations of my favourite Time Lord.

The puzzles are nestled away in passages linking the various Doctor’s regeneration scenes, so you’ll need to skim at least through to find the goods and the occasional clue. You can assume coordinates are N 52° 53.XXX' W 001° XX.XXX' and will need you own pen and tweezers. All were conceived and placed by Doctor RuddRobins + checked and difficulty assessed by Mrs RuddRobins.

The notes at the end are random Docfacts not needed to complete the puzzle. I hope you find it all mildly amusing and it keeps you out of trouble for at least a little while J

The Ruddy Doctor 10: The Ninth Doctor

(A hand grabs your wrist.)

DOCTOR: Run.

(The DOCTOR has gone modern minimalist, with t-shirt and leather jacket. He drags you away from the monsters (It could be cybermen, daleks, or weeping angels, you don’t stop to look) and to safety

DOCTOR: I'm the DOCTOR, by the way. What's your name?

YOU: <insert your name here!>.

DOCTOR: Nice to meet you. Run for your life!

(After an exhilarating run from whatever was in pursuit this week, things calm down a little & the DOCTOR notes his reflection in a mirror)

DOCTOR: Ah, could've been worse. Look at the ears.

YOU: Who are you?

DOCTOR: Told you. The DOCTOR.

YOU: Yeah, but DOCTOR what?

DOCTOR: Just the DOCTOR.

YOU: The DOCTOR?

DOCTOR: Hello!

YOU: Is that supposed to sound impressive?

DOCTOR: Sort of.

YOU: Come on, then. You can tell me. I've seen enough. Are you the police?

DOCTOR: No, I was just passing through. I'm a long way from home.

YOU: But what have I done wrong? How comes those things keep coming after me?

DOCTOR: Oh, suddenly the entire world revolves around you. You were just an accident. You got in the way, that's all.

YOU: It tried to kill me.

DOCTOR: It was after me, not you. You blundered in, almost ruined the whole thing. I was tracking it down, it was tracking me down. The only reason it fixed on you is 'cos you've met me.

YOU: So what you're saying is, the entire world revolves around you.

DOCTOR: Sort of, yeah.

YOU: You're full of it.

DOCTOR: Do you know like we were saying about the Earth revolving? It's like when you were a kid. The first time they tell you the world's turning and you just can't quite believe it because everything looks like it's standing still. I can feel it. The turn of the Earth. The ratio of its circumference to its diameter. The ground beneath our feet is spinning at a thousand miles an hour, and the entire planet is hurtling round the sun at sixty seven thousand miles an hour, and I can feel it. We're falling through space, you and me, clinging to the skin of this tiny little world, and if we let go. That's who I am. Now, forget me. Go home.

I’ve got to work out this simple puzzle and then I’m out of here. Finding the place really should be easy as pie . . .

4 / 5 / 2 ; 13. 32 / 32 / 4

The Doctor works out the puzzle from place and the place from the puzzle and you help him chase the monsters away, You’re both FANTASTIC.

(Many, many adventures later. Still in the TARDIS)

YOU: What happened?

DOCTOR: Don't you remember?

YOU: It's like there was this singing.

DOCTOR: That's right. I sang a song and the monsters ran away.

YOU: I was at home. No, I wasn't, I was in the Tardis, and there was this light. I can't remember anything else

(The DOCTOR's skin is darkening.)

DOCTOR: I was going take you to so many places. Barcelona. Not the city Barcelona, the planet Barcelona. You'd love it. Fantastic place. They've got dogs with no noses. Imagine how many times a day you end up telling that joke, and it's still funny.

YOU: Then, why can't we go?

DOCTOR: Maybe you will, and maybe I will. But not like this.

YOU: You're not making sense.

DOCTOR: I might never make sense again. I might have two heads, or no head. Imagine me with no head. And don't say that's an improvement. But it's a bit dodgy, this process. You never know what you're going to end up with

(The DOCTOR double over in pain.)

YOU: DOCTOR!

DOCTOR: Stay away!

YOU: DOCTOR, tell me what's going on.

DOCTOR: I absorbed all the energy of the Time Vortex, and no one's meant to do that. Every cell in my body's dying.

YOU: Can't you do something?

DOCTOR: Yeah, I'm doing it now. Time Lords have this little trick, it's sort of a way of cheating death. Except it means I'm going to change, and I'm not going to see you again. Not like this. Not with this daft old face. And before I go . . .

YOU: Don't say that.

DOCTOR:  before I go, I just want to tell you, you were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And do you know what? So was I.

(Golden light burst out of the DOCTOR's body. This is not a nice quiet regeneration of the usual kind. Everything changes very suddenly and the tenth DOCTOR is standing there.)

DOCTOR: Hello. Okay. Ooo, new teeth. That's weird. So, where was I? Oh, that's right. Barcelona!

Notes:

The sole survivor of the Last Great Time War, scarred by the terrible things he’d seen and done, the Ninth Doctor was an intense and emotional incarnation. He first appears in the episode "Rose" where he rescues 19-year-old shopgirl Rose Tyler from an Auton attack in the department store where she works. After Rose helps the Doctor defeat the Nestene Consciousness (living plastic), he invites her to travel with him in the TARDIS.

The Dalek Emperor had also survived the Time War and has rebuilt the Dalek race: the Doctor sends Rose back to the 21st century to protect her before attempting to destroy the Dalek army. When he realises that doing this would destroy most of planet Earth he is unable to do so, proclaiming he would rather be a coward than a killer. Having absorbed the energies of the time vortex, Rose is able to return to the Doctor and destroy the Daleks. To save Rose from being killed by harbouring the time vortex, the Doctor removes the harmful effects by kissing her. However, the damage to his cells causes him to regenerate and the Tenth Doctor takes his place.
