5th & Final Annual Event in the SCAVENGER Series
This Geocaching event is a 30-minute meet-and-greet social in the picnic area of Jakes Branch Park in Beachwood, NJ. During the 30-min event, we will kick-off an optional 4-hour scavenger hunt. To earn an Attended, meet up at the event location bet. 11:15am & 11:45am.

While the event itself has a terrain rating of 1.5, much of the terrain for the scavenger hunt ranges from 1.5 to 2.5.

About SCAVENGER 2025
SCAVENGER 2025: To The Pines! focuses on this area as the Northeast (NE) Gateway to the Pinelands. The NJ Pinelands is also known as the Pine Barrens or just simply "The Pines". This biosphere is made up of 1.1 million acres of woodlands, waterways, meadows and farmlands, roughly 22% of NJ's area. In 1978, the NJ Pinelands was designated as the first ever United States National Reserve. Its purpose was to maintain the diversity of plants, animals & microorganisms within the living biosphere, while simultaneously addressing the needs of an increasing population. Ten years later, in 1988, it was designated internationally as an International Biosphere Reserve.
SCAVENGER 2025 is JerseyEric's 5th and Final annual scavenger hunt in the SCAVENGER series. The series was inspired by his participation in the late sofiecat's final scavenger hunt, 2012 SJG SCAVENGER HUNT, at Wharton State Forest in Shamong, NJ. Results from SCAVENGER 2024, SCAVENGER 2023, SCAVENGER 2022 and SCAVENGER 2021 are listed on their webpages.
Scavenger Hunt Details
- Starts at 11:30am at the event location and ends at 3:30pm at the same location.
- Gather by 11:25am to sign up and hear a very brief intro.
- Approximate Walking Distance (if pursuing all items): 3 to 4 Miles
- Each item will earn 1 to 4 pts as indicated on the hunt list.
- Items on the hunt will likely be one of four types:
1) Physical Finds: Mix of things found on the trail or in your caching toolkit to present.
2) Answers to Questions: Find an answer at the coords provided.
3) Photos: Mostly things you can find in the area; plus a few pics at specific coords.
4) Unknown: Solve a puzzle? Go to multiple stages? It's a mystery!
- Physical items will be returned to each team upon scoring.
- Suggested Equipment: Smartphone w/GPS (or GPSr) and Digital Camera device (likely your Smartphone) are MUST HAVE'S. Proper clothing (gloves, hat) for Dec temps. Footware or boots for sandy paths. Adventure Lab app on at least 1 device per team. Vehicle. Bug spray. Poking stick. Pens. Clipboard. Bag to hold physical finds.
- Winners will be announced as soon as scoring completes after 3:30pm.
- It's possible for a team to finish early & get scored before the finish time. To do so, you'll need to text the event host (# provided at event).
- To assist with planning, Scavengers are strongly encouraged to log a Will Attend indicating (a) intent to compete in the hunt, and (b) members of their team if known in advance.
Scavenger Hunt Rules
- Compete in the hunt as a team of 1 to 4 people.
- Teams must identify all members at the start. No switching or combining teams during the hunt.
- No sharing of answers or other collusion across teams.
- A team can only earn points for an item once. If the item is a Leaf, a team can only earn points for 1 Leaf even if it turns in 8 leaves.
- Photos must include the event fan issued to the team.
- When teams return at 3:30pm to be scored, hand in your sheet and loot, then step aside until your team is called for scoring (i.e. to show pics).
- During scoring, each team must keep 20 feet away from the scoring table until called.
