Iinyoka is situated on the lower part of the trail that leads to Vensterberg, the 3rd highest peak in the area at 1309 m asl. I highly recommend you, to do the whole trail as you will be rewarded with a 360° view of green valleys below, of the glorious mountain peaks of the surrounding Outeniqua Mountain range and of the ocean towards George and Mossel Bay in the distance. On a clear day you can see the Swartberg Mountains towards Oudtshoorn.
This is truly one of my favourite hikes! An added bonus is that there are some more caches (GC8VKX1, GC7CH1Y and GC94BKR) to be found on your way to the summit.
The full hike up to Vensterberg will take you between 4 and 5 hours, depending on time spent searching for the other caches and taking photos of the beautiful surroundings.
The distance from the trailhead to GZ is 590 meters. It will take you 10 to 20 minutes, depending on your fitness levels to reach Iinyoka. The first 200 meters is very steep and you might start to doubt you fitness, but just keep going. The rest of the path is more manageable.
Basic hiking rules:
- Never hike alone,
- bring enough water, at least 2 litres,
- wear sturdy, comfortable shoes and a hat,
- and bring something warm, the weather can change quickly in the mountains.
