Geocache Description:

World Tour Multi-Cacher Multi-Cache
Stage 04 of the series
WT04 - Vienna - World Tour Destination
by hamgran

The "World Tour" Multi-Cacher Multi-Cache is a cooperative effort of 18 Geocachers. Each of the individual Stage caches may be treated as a normal, single cache. You may complete the 20 preliminary Stages in any order. Each Stage will include a *SECRET*, written on the underside of the cache container lid, and/or in the log book. Don't forget to write it down, if you plan to tackle the Final Stage!

This particular cache is a multi that will take you around the delightful hamlet of Vienna, Ontario. Simply answer each question, then do a bit of easy math to determine the cache location.

As you approach the town from the north, the posted co-ordinates take you to the "Welcome to Vienna" sign. There's a picture of a mammal on the sign. How many letters are in the one-word common English name of this critter? (Hint - the nearby creek is named after the little fellow, as well. Come to think of it, maybe the town otter be named after him, too!)

Stop Two is at N 42 40.790, W 080 47.300. This is a Trans Canada Trail sign, with information about a certain type of tree in the park. How many letters are in the two-word Latin name of the tree species? Take this number and multiply by five.

Stop Three takes you to the Edison Museum, at N 42 40.856, W 080 47.518. There is a blue/green star on a sign on the side of the museum. How many points on the star? (BTW, a new museum, complete with replica of the original Edison homestead, is in the works! More information on this interesting endeavour can be found here.)

Stop Four is the Edison Pioneer Cemetery, which dates back to the mid 1800s. The co-ordinates are: N 42 40.446, W 080 47.224. (The driveway entrance is off North Street, which is on the other side of the highway. You may have to hike up the driveway in wintertime). How many headstones remain upright (standing) inside the cemetery? Take this number and double it.

Now add all your four answers together. Subtract 89 from the total. Add this final answer to N 42 39.385, and also to W 080 47.941. And presto - you've got the final cache location, which is on a rail trail. (On your way there, look up, and you will be able to see huge turbines busily harvesting wind power. These are part of the Erie Shores Wind Farm. For those with inquiring minds, more information can be found here).
