Welcome to Slitor Cemetery.
This long and narrow little graveyard sits on the very southern
border of Burton Township in Geauga County. Although it is somewhat
difficult to find, as it is hidden from view, it is well worth a
visit. Besides the many historical grave markers, the view of the
Geauga farmlands that surround the cemetery is fantastic.
So why is this cache named Geauga "Odyssay"? Well, first of all,
the reference to another Greek epic by Homer was an obvious
follow-up to the "Geauga Iliad" cache that I placed in Troy
Cemetery. Secondly, have you ever noticed how many commonly used
words are so often misspelled? It is amazing just how frequently
the word "cemetery" is actually incorrectly spelled "cemetary". If
you approach this cache site from the north, coming down Claridon
Troy Road (SR 700), be sure to look for the sign that says,
"Cemetary Entrance". I wonder if the township got a discount for
the spelling error.
Please be very cautious when entering or exiting the cemetery, as
the traffic on SR 700 can sneak up on you very quickly. Cemetery
hours are from dawn to dusk. Absolutely no night caching is
allowed! Please be respectful of all who rest here. The cache
is a camouflaged waterproof matchbox with no room for trade items.
Please bring your own pen or pencil and be sure to replace the
cache exactly as you found it.
This cache is one of six in a series that you will need to find to
determine the final coordinates of "70's One-Hit Wonders: Have a
Nice Day!" Each of these six caches contains a set of lyrics
from a song that was made popular by a one-hit wonder group or solo
artist in the 1970's. All of the lyric clues can be found in the
log sheets. Using this small section of the song, you must
determine the song title and ultimately the year that the song
reached its highest position on Billboard magazine's Top 40
list. The last digit of that year will be the number you seek to
gain the final cache's coordinates.
Although some of the songs may have been remade by contemporary
artists, each song was originally made popular in the 1970's, and
the year of its popularity is what you must find. Please do not
give away any of the lyrics, song titles, or years in your logs or
they may be deleted! However, if you had a favorite song by a
one-hit wonder of the 1970's, or just a favorite 1970's song in
general, please feel free to mention it in your find log.
All of these caches were placed in October of 2006, to commemorate
the year of Geauga County's bicentennial. I hope you enjoy your
caching journey through the beautiful and historic Geauga County.
Watch for the special bicentennial banners as you make your way
between cache locations. If you find all of the caches in the
series, including the final, you will have visited at least six of
the sixteen townships in Geauga County, including a trip through
Middlefield Village.

Note that some of the hints for these caches are actually song
titles from 70's one-hit wonders, along with their year of
popularity. These hints will not help you solve the lyrics
or the puzzle to determine the final cache location, but hopefully
they will help you find the cache at hand if you're having
difficulty.
