This cache has been archived.

FluteFace: The time has come to put this lil' event to bed. Thanks to all who came and all who helped. If you're interested, there are photos posted on my Flickr account. Also, there is a video (such as it is) on my YouTube account. Look for member fluteface at both sites.

Thanks for the fun!

Geocache Description:

flash mob (FLASH mawb) n. A large group of people who gather in a usually predetermined location, perform some brief action, and then quickly disperse. —v., —adj. (from http://www.wordspy.com/words/flashmob.asp)

You're heard of mega-events? This is quite the opposite in a variety of ways. Flash mobs have gathered for a variety of reasons (to learn more, visit the User's Web Page link near the top of this page) but seldom before for geocaching. Come be part of an historic geocaching event taking place in several locations in the USA, on the same day and at the same time. The events will be quite unique and one of the first of its kind. It may well be one of several fore-runners of a new type of geocaching event.

About this event:
Who? Geocachers & their families, friends, groupies &/or assorted hanger-ons
What? A flash mob cache event
Where? The above coordinates
When? 9:00am - 9:15am, Sunday, May 20, 2007
Why? Why not?

So, now that the furor has died down and all is nearly complete, it is nearly time to archive this event. But, there is some business to attend to. Most importantly, my most heartfelt thanks and gratitude are due to the following cachers . . . I couldn't have done it without you!!
  • Sassy of Sassy&Gordy
  • Janna of Lajoie 5
  • Heather of TheStachers
  • Harriet the Spy
  • teperky
  • Leah of Sillihunters
  • CelticCacher
  • Branx4
  • SilentNW
  • Johnny Boy of Johnny Boy and DB Cooper
  • Rey del Roble
  • PodCacher.com

Official Schedule
8:45 - 8:59
Participants: Mill about and mosey. Be nonchalant and casual. Look like a muggle. Don't look like a gathering waiting to happen. Mosey as realistically as you can. This is part of the fun. We will seem to appear out of no-where.

8:58
SilentNW will begin filming video for the entire event to capture the moments.

9:00
FluteFace and VIPs will walk to ground zero with a boom box playing Geocaching music. This is the signal that the event has begun!
Participants: Make sure to pickup your loot bag from Sassy or Branx4, carrying large green camo'd buckets. The loot bag will have almost everything you’ll need: nametag, yellow log sheet, NUTS style meal, pencil, crayon, audio CD, podcaster promo. If extras are needed, see Sillihunter’s Leah, with a blue bucket.
Participants: Fill out nametags with caching names and stick 'em on. That’s what the crayon’s for!
Participants: Fill out yellow log sheets and drop them in teperky’s ammo box. That’s what the pencil is for! Make sure your caching name appears on any yellow log sheet. This will allow you to log the event online. We will be checking!
Participants: Make sure one half (any half!) of your blue raffle ticket goes into FluteFace’s ammo can. No need to fill anything out, just make sure you hang onto the other half and listen carefully for winners to be announced.

9:00 - 9:08
Participants: Mingle. Share stories. Brag. Find Celtic Cacher who will have blue buckets with which to trade swag and/or travel bugs. Take pictures. Sign and deposit your log (sheets). Deposit your raffle ticket. CITO the local area! Enjoy your sweet meal – a nutty, chocolaty kiss!

9:08 – 9:11
Participants: Listen up. FluteFace will draw numbers of raffle winners. Listen carefully because this will go fast. Up for grabs are FTF honors for this event, a 2005 Washington State geocoin, a new and unactivated ‘Sometimes You Feel Like a Nut’ geocoin, a new and unactivated ‘We’re N.U.T.S. About Geocaching’ geocoin, a pair of FluteFace geocoins, 3 JohnnyBoy geocoin/pin sets, and a silver bison tube, and maybe one or two other items . . . we’ll see.

9:11-9:14 Participants: Go over to the photo area and assemble FAST. Listen to the Harriet the Spy for directions.

9:14
FluteFace calls the one minute warning: "It is now 9:14!"
Participants: Prep to leave, but don't "look" like you are prepping. You might want to "secretly" organize where you will re-form after dispersal.

9:15 EXACTLY
Participants: Wait for it . . . then LEAVE the area, right at 9:15, in a disorderly manner and in different directions. Afterwards, meet elsewhere if desired. We want to clear the video taping area but we will continue to tape for a minute or so to show us "vacate". The buckets of swag and TBs will be packed up; the log sheet ammo box will be packed up and sealed. We will leave the area to go . . . elsewhere.

9:17
SilentNW will end the taping.

Other Useful Information:
  • This event is only 15 minutes long! You MUST be present and sign a provided log sheet DURING this time to claim the event. Hopefully this event will bring (briefly!) geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to the hobby.
  • This event has been organized and facilitated by volunteers. There are not enough words to express my thanks and gratitude to them. If you are interested in volunteering, there is still time.
  • At exactly 9:00am (as determined by a GPS clock . . . yours should be identical) FluteFace will place a small CD player on the ground near the bucket to play some pleasant, upbeat music -- music to cache by. Volunteers will hand out loot bags to cachers. The bags will contain everything mentioned in the schedule. Participants will sign the yellow log sheets (which will later become a log book) to qualify for attendance and drop them in a designated collection ammo can. Participants may trade swag and/or TBs. Look for the man with two white buckets. Please bring only reasonably sized swag, TBs or coins for trading. Oversized TBs will not be welcome. Due to time constraints, no discovery will be allowed during the event with exception of two coins activated especially for this event.
  • Remaining swag (there should be some) and TBs will be used in a new cache to commemorate this event that will be placed in Forest Park.
  • If any muggles are curious about the event, Janna of Lajoie 5 will hand out fliers that explain geocaching.
  • At precisely 9:15, the buckets and the log sheets will be packed up and sealed away. The event area will be vacated without a trace. Events that happen after 9:15:01 do not count as part of THIS event. Only those participants whose names appear on the log sheets may log the event.
  • Although participants are welcome to get together for eating, socializing, caching or whatever before or after the event, the event will officially be over at 9:15.
  • Carpooling is encouraged. It might not hurt to come early to find parking. Parking can be difficult to find. If you can't find parking you might miss the event!

The Other Concurrent Flash Mob Cache Events:

I hope there will be some muggles nearby who will wonder "What did I just see? What just happened?"
