Goodbye Babur, it’s time to let you go but Vesel božič, Merry Christmas! You spent a lovely morning geocaching and then met up with CuteOtter and climbed up to the castle. Last night, we looked at all the Christmas lights which are fantastic. A lot seemed to be based on space and an alien invasion. Then we walked to another area and that was illuminated by twin killing sperm, eggs, and foetuses. Truly amazing. Good luck! 🎄

Dobrodošli v Sloveniji! Welcome to Slovenia! You arrived in Ljubljana last night and are staying in an apartment opposite the university. Spent the day walking about finding lab caches. Checked out all the dragons which are the symbol of Ljubljana. Saw some nutria/coypu next to the river. It’s a beautiful city and lots of people are here enjoying the Christmas markets. 🇸🇮

A last walk around Padua for you and then it was off to Trieste by train. The tracks go close to the town of Prosecco so I’m annoyed I didn’t spot that on the map and plan a stop! There was just enough time in Trieste for one last Italian find and then it was back on another train. 🚆

First order of the day was a visit to the Scrovegni Chapel to see Giotto's frescos painted in 1305. It is regarded as one of the supreme masterpieces of the Early Renaissance. One panel features Mary's parents, Joachim and Anne, kissing each other at the Golden Gate in Jerusalem. It is thought to be the first depiction of a kiss in Western art. Then it was on to a tour of the University of Padua, the world’s fifth oldest surviving University. It was founded in 1222 and counts Galileo Galilei, Nicolaus Copernicus, and Casanova as students or teachers. 🔭

You are on the move, but first a visit to the flooded crypts in Venice. Tell your owner not to bother. Then it was onto the Vaporetto to the train and Padua. Went for a wander to Prato Della Valle, the largest square in Italy. It’s surrounded by statues of notable people and is lit by twinkling Christmas lights at the moment. ⛲️

Our last full day in Venice and it’s a bit grey. Checked out the Arsenal and beautiful Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo with its amazing staircase. Ended with a gondola ride under the Bridge of Sighs. When in Venice…… 🛶

Today you took the ferry to the glass making island of Murano. There are some really beautiful, and expensive, works of art but also lots of tat. Then took another ferry to Burano, another island off Venice where all the houses are painted bright colours. Very pretty. Went out to dinner and noticed that Elton John was performing a private concert at La Fenice Opera House so we sat on a bridge over a canal and listened with a handful of others. Saw Elton leave the theatre near us and we called out to him. He waved and said he loved us. Thanks Rocket Man. 🚀

A lovely day just walking all over Venice chasing caches and enjoying the sights. Bought some delicious chocolates too. Not doing so well with dinner food. That’s been really average even though we are going to places with high ratings. If that’s the only negative then we are doing well! 🍝

A fun day of watching Santas in gondolas today for the Regata dei Babbi Natale. A whole flotilla of decorated gondolas paddles up the grand canal full of Santas and elves. Enjoyed an excellent Yuletide meal of pizza and aperol spritz then wandered around Venice checking out secret places such as the supermarket in a converted opera theatre. We stocked up on Fonzies there which are the same things, and same packaging, as Australian Twisties. Finished with a spectacular sunset over St Mark’s Square. 🎅🏻
