Bug History:

This travel bug was originally the top of a troop flag, which due to the ravages of time, eventually broke off.

Saved for many years, by a Scoutmaster as a memory of good times past. When he past, the piece came into my hands, and I felt the Scouting Spirit , and Goodwill coming from this piece. If you do a good turn, have fun outdoors on a camp out take a digital picture, and include this Travel Bug "Scout Spirit" in your report to this web site. This bugs mission is to spread the Positive aspects of scout spirit where ever it travels.

We had a suggestion of taking this to a Cub Scout cross-over pack meeting. So, I rode back to Captain Jack's Trading Post and brought the bug home. This evening the Bug attended the pack meeting and Sunday it is scheduled to attend an Eagle Court.

The Scout Spirit BSA BUG will be headed to the Pikes Peak Council's UTE District fall camporee, Colorado Springs starting April 25th. I know this bug wants to tour the Rockies, so stay tuned.

  • Boy Scout Camporee Picture of Travel Bug with Troop 18 from Manitou Springs (I’m center holding bug), at the Ute District, Pikes Peak Council's Spring Camporee. Along with 300 Scouts and Scouters (adults) the travel bug attended the various sporting activities including Softball, Ultimate Frisbee, Broomball, and Soccer, it was fantastic! The next scouting activity will be a Venturing activity where we are introducing the Venturers to Geocaching. Although I’ve become fond of this critter, I’ll have to let it free

  • Sign at trailhead Scout Spirit BSA bug next to warning sign at trailhead. Lots of people on the trail today, so it's unlikely we will run into a Colorado Kitty.
  • Wildlife tracks The trails were crowded today. People tend to scare off the local fauna, but there were still signs that wildlife is in the area. This deer track was probably made sometime earlier today.
  • View from near the cache Looking from near the cache site toward Eldorado Mountain. Notice how the grass is pressed down. Three weeks ago, this area got several feet of snow.

Next to the rocks are prickley pear cactus. My friend Dale tried dining on this natural food at one of our Scout camping trips. He pealed them, but forgot the important step of singing the cactus to remove the fine spines. We spent most of the afternoon picking cactus spines out of his mouth with tweesers.

Found this bug in a suburban cache. Scouting is more fun in the wilderness. It's time this bug had some real adventures like I did in my Scouting days.

Got this bug today, originally was thinking about taking it out further west but will most likely bring it down to Denver as it wants to head south down I-25.
