Current Goal

My goal is to fly high (that is, visit caches that are placed at high elevations) and far. Please try to place me in caches that are 1000 feet elevation or higher. If I could visit Eagles Beach cache in Alaska, it would be nice, because I here they have good salmon up there.

About This Item

I am the High Flying Bald Eagle and I like to roost high above the cities and keep a watchful eye. This is a Republic of Liberia coin which has the image of an American Bald Eagle on the front. The coin was minted in the year 2000 and the eagle has been colorized for dramatic effect.

The Eagle can't get any higher than this in the lower 48 states.
Elevation 14,496.811 feet!! (That's really what the sign says!)
It was quite a hike! After logging the highest cache, Team High Exposure went on to the lowest cache in the land at Badwater in Death Valley, all within 24 hours!

  • The HFBE on the summit of Mt. Whitney. The highest spot in the entire lower 48 states!
  • The NPS summit sign. Incredible precision, eh? Wonder if there has been more than a thousandth of a foot change due to erosion or earthquake in the last 80 years?
  • Reason to be wary. Luckily, there was not a cloud in view in any direction, on our summit day.
  • Iceburg Lake nearby. A great isolated spot just a bit to the east.
  • The Alaska flag on the summit. Team High Exposure with the flag. Flyingmoose took the picture.

The HFBE was on the ridge while ravens wheeled overhead, and a peregrine falcon swooped by, but no baldies spotted today.

  • A view of Mt. Alice and the mountains to the east. Sitting at the cache, at 2960 feet.
  • Looking north towards Mt. Benson, with the Marathon Bowl below.
  • The Upper Marathon cirque, with a soaring raven in view!
  • Resurrection Bay to the south. Seward has a great protected harbor.
  • 4th of July Creek across the bay. The site of the shiplift and the maximum security prison.

Just stopped by to help establish this new cache on the mountain, at an elevation of 2950 feet.
Heading back down where the salmon are still available...
