Current Goal

My mission is to visit the RAF stations used by the No. 316 (Warszawski) Squadron RAF during WWII.
I would be interested in finding out what has happened to the bases since the war and how many of them are still used for flying. I have checked the base locations on Google Earth. Some are still clearly visible and some are not.

The badge with the TB is the Squadron Badge of No 316 (Leigh) Squadron, Air Training Corps (an organisation connected to the RAF which gives young people opportunities to fly, glide and get involved in lots of other activities), which contains the Polish emblem of the wartime 316.

There were some (~10) tin badges included with the TB when it was was first released. Please take one when you pass on the TB.

If the bug gets around all twelve locations, we'll try to take some of the Leigh air cadets to retrieve it.

Found this one near Northolt Air Base - it'll be fun finding the next suitable location to drop it off.

Picked this one up from the xmas drinkies, certain we could help it along with its mission! We managed to find Heston RAF base, and subsequently took some photos, which will be uploaded soon!

Not much there now, just a large open space behind some houses, although the old runways can still be seen.

Having lived in Heston for most of his life, MrPP was surprised to find out that the RAF Base used to be here - as both he and his parents had always assumed it was at the site of the old Heston Airport, which expanded to become Heathrow. As an additional bit of trivia, Heston Airport was the site of Neville Chamberlain's infamous paper-waving speech after his meeting with Adolf Hitler, where he declared he had achieved 'peace in our time'...

Cheers for releasing this one - it was an education!

We picked this TB up from Bright Eyes and were very interested to find out the mission. One of our team members, MidnightRaven, used to attend 1003 Squadron, Leighton Buzzard (Beds & Cambs Wing) and her father was Squadron Leader for the Wing as well as leading the D of E Award Scheme. We hope to visit both Woodvalle and Northolt whilst we have the TB, so will try to take some photos, as to our knowledge, both bases are still functioning within the RAF.
