Our 1st cache in Singapore during a brief stopover holiday and a container big enough for the TB. We hope it will travel far and wide from here.

Visited 11/1/2011 me N u took it to Balikpapan by the sea - M35 #254 Indonesia - 5,340.01 miles  Visit Log

This was a nano cache so we were unable to drop off the coin here and the next nearest cache in Indonesia is an earthcache over 770 Kms away, so this is a little bit off the beaten track.

We are staying in Balikpapan for a week following a diving holiday on Derawan island, and this is our 1st cache in Indonesia, but will be stopping off in another country on our way back to Saudi Arabia so will attempt to drop the coin off then.

Derawan Island is located at N02 17.060 E118 14.816, Sangalaki, Maratua and Kakaban Islands are close by.

We have uploaded some photos from our Indonesia visit - hope you like them.

Visited 10/14/2011 me N u took it to CAMEL TRAIL "X" Saudi Arabia - 207.14 miles  Visit Log

We are going on holiday soon so will drop It`s a bugs life off in another country.

Camel trail X is a continuation of camel trail 1 (GCFB51) (which is one of 4 known trails close to Riyadh). They are of unknown age - possibly at least 2000 years - and were used by trading caravans to ascend the 400m high Tuwaiq escarpment these two trails have a total length of about 4Km. The effort put in to construct these trails is awe inspiring as hopefully can be seen from the photos.

    Photos will be uploaded asap.

This is one of those areas we would never have thought of visiting if not for geocaching.

We developed this earthcache after finding the traditional cache (GCJ509)missing during a visit, it is an amazing area well worthy of having a cache but a bit off the beaten track.

Thank you to the gadgeteers for initially bringing us to this area.

Welcome to Wahba crater home of the oldest surviving cache in Saudi Arabia (placed on 4th march 2001).

The crater is currently believed to be volcanic although there is another theory that it may be a meteor impact site. The volcanic theory saying that the eruption was caused by ground water meeting magma resulting in a massive explosion explaining why the lave flows are quite some way from the edge of the crater.

It is an impressive sight at about 2Kms (1.25 miles) diameter and 200m (650Ft) deep and the cache is at the bottom! The white substance at the bottom is salt.
The tarmac actually goes to the edge of the rim with no warning signs - no health and safety (common sense?) in Saudi - so it would be possible to go over the edge, fortunately there is not yet any eveidence of anyone having done so.

The round trip from the vehicles took up to 4 hours in temperatures around 40C even before midday, resulting in 3 cases of heatstroke on the way up, fortunately nothing serious and everybody was fine after a rest in air conditioned cars.

Visited 9/22/2011 me N u took it to Qaa'at Al Muwayh Al Qadim (Rowntree's Best) Saudi Arabia - 333.44 miles  Visit Log

A long weekend enabled us to plan a camping trip with a group of people from suadi geochers (www.saudigeocachers.com) to some of the more distant caches from home.

This site is close to an old caravanserai - in the days of camel travel, this was on the route from the west coast to the east coast of Saudi Arabia, these caravanserai are located near to water supplies and also provided a safe haven for travellers across the desert - the harshness of life out here meant that camel trains were targets for the local tribesmen.

This particular caravanserai was converted into a hunting lodge by the founder of modern day Saudi Arabia, King Abdul Aziz Al Saud, it was so remote that a special airstrip was constructed nearby to enable him to fly a Dakota aircraft in and out. The buildings are currently being rrebuilt and are surrounded by a fence although the workers seem more than happy to allow visitors in.

The cache site overlooks both Dirab golf club and King AbdulAziz Arabian horse cstable.

Visited 9/15/2011 me N u took it to Gecko cave Saudi Arabia - 3,278.98 miles  Visit Log

Visited during a maintenance check attempting to find out who picked up a trackable and did not log it online.

Gecko cave got its name from the small lizards we found living here, the cave is on the banks of the Riyadh river close to a dam at Al Ha`ir, here the dam allows the formation of large pools in which we have seen catfish and turtles (terrapins?) as well as attracting fish eating birds. It is a rare area of greenery in the desert, sadly underdeveloped at present.
