About This Item

Patient # 72 - Earl

Meet Earl a zombie who has become patient number 72 in our study of the propagation of the zombie plague via geocaching.  Earl had a strange affinity for plaid clothing.  He hated herringbone. Earl also had a 17 page rap sheet, mostly for minor B&E offenses, and a few assaults.  Grand theft auto.  Burglary.  A smattering of drunk and disorderly, and indecency charges.  Earl was what you might call an unsavory character.  Earl had one redeeming feature, and that is that he really loved his son.  He tried really hard to pay child support (although where he got the money was always questionable), and he tried to visit when he was not in jail and didn't have a restraining order from his ex.  His son lived with his mother in a trailer park, and did really well in school.

We believe that Earl contracted the zombie plague from patient # 20 Troy.  Earl heard about geocaching from Troy through a Harley bike club gecoaching event that Troy organized and they were both a part of.  Earl thought geocaching would be a great way to connect with his son, and do something educational, so he went right out and stole two GPS units from a major electronics store.  Sadly, those two units are likely still in the evidence section of the county lock-up; Earl was caught quickly, and although we are not clear on how he escaped the detention facility, we know that  succumbed to the zombie plague while in custody.  We do not believe that he ever got to find a cache with his son.

This travel bug is part of a larger study to take a closer look at how the zombie plague might propagate if the primary vector for spreading the disease was geocaching.  Please visit the following website for further details, and a visualization of how the disease has propagated thus far based on the movement and discovery of this and other infected Zombie travel bugs:
