About This Item

I was found in a free box at a garage sale in Cornell WI. Shirley loved to bowl and now I am going on to live out her dream of bowling across the US. We love bowling here in Wisconsin but I am ready for the big leagues, the bowing hall of fame. Pictures on my web site or stories about me bowling would be great. Get out and bowl.

Minnesota Singles Tournament
Post High School (Scratch)

There are two levels of qualifying for the State Tournament. Round 1 is House Level qualifying, meaning the center where a bowler participates in a weekly league. Kris goes to school at Minnesota State University-Mankato and is in a league at Jerry Dutler's Bowl. On the day of qualifying, with a 217 average, he rolled 255-210-247 [712] which was tops for his group. He advanced to District, also at Dutler's, where he rolled 176-226-213 [615] which was tops for the District. As District Champion, he advanced to State, at Earle Brown Bowl in Brooklyn Center.

Holiday break for MSU is from mid-December to mid-January, a bit too long without a regular daily routine. Kris is a pretty good poker player, but let's just say he has trouble knowing when to get up from the table. A few days ago was a particularly bad time, and he had been a little bit down.

In the Friday Night Scratch League at Flaherty's, he put together four pretty good games and made the cut. He won his first match, then lost the second, but the point is that he was bowling again and seemed in good spirits.

Two of the Friday Night bowlers, Carl Poelzer, and Dustin Dorma had also advanced to State. One of his college teammates was also there. These guys are all very competitive, and regularly bowl in the monthly Minnesota Junior Bowlers Tour.

During practice this afternoon, Kris was making good shots, and appeared ready to compete.

At the end of game 1, Kris was in the lead with 237. At the end of game two, he was in the lead with 474. Dustin was second with 451. Dustin and Kris both rolled 213, giving Kris the State title. It was very close though. Three bowlers from Flaherty's placed 1-2-3:

687 Kris

664 Dustin

655 Carl

Big day for our two youth bowlers.

At the Saturday Morning Youth Scratch League @ Flaherty's Kris got 11 strikes and a seven count for a 297. He said later that he wanted a 299 so he could get another ring.

In the afternoon Kollin, with teammates, entered the High School Baker Team Tournament at Stardust Lanes. After three games of qualifying, they were top seed with a 3 game total of 640.

In the "best of 3" matchplay they were 2-1 vs. Saint Anthony, 2-0 vs. Apple Place, 2-1 vs. Ham Lake, 0-2 vs. Brooklyn Center (1st loss), then 2-0 vs. Brooklyn Center in the Championship game.
