Die ersten beiden Menschen landeten im Rahmen der Mission Apollo 11 am 20. Juli 1969 auf dem Mond: Neil Armstrong und Edwin Aldrin. Sechs Stunden später, am 21. Juli um 03:56:20 Uhr MEZ, betrat Neil Armstrong als erster Mensch den Mond. Der dritte Astronaut, Michael Collins, umkreiste im Apollo-Mutterschiff den Erdtrabanten bis zur Rückkehr der Landeeinheit Eagle. Im Rahmen des Apollo-Programms wurden insgesamt sechs Mondlandungen durchgeführt. Damit haben bis heute 12 Menschen, allesamt US-Amerikaner, den Mond betreten. Eugene Cernan – Kommandant von Apollo 17 – ist bislang der letzte Mensch, der auf dem Mond war, indem er als letzter in die Mondfähre einstieg. Das Apollo-Programm kostete 25 Milliarden Dollar, etwa 120 Milliarden nach heutigen Maßstäben und beschäftigte bis zu 400.000 Menschen

The first two people as part of the Apollo 11 mission landed on the moon on July 20, 1969 at 21:17 clock (CET ) . Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin. Six hours later , on July 21 at 03:56:20 GMT clock , Neil Armstrong became the first man stepping on on the moon. The third astronaut Michael Collins orbited the Apollo mothership. As part of the Apollo program, a total of six moon landings were carried out.
