Current Goal

To be put into the hands of an “Amazing Race” producer!

About This Item

Be a part of geocaching history! Introducing the first video travel bug designed to get it’s owners’ on a television reality show. We are Bob and Dan from Erie, Pennsylvania. We have been friends for 25 years and want to be on the CBS show “The Amazing Race”, the exciting reality series featuring 11 teams of 2 that race around the globe to a finish line where the winners split a million dollars! Check it out at www.CBS.com.

We have sent in our 10-page application along with video and passport. Now the goal is to get this bug directly into the hands of an Amazing Race producer (or send them to the below link where they can view it online). We are confident that if someone on the production staff views our video, they will want to meet us.

Anyone can claim they made a great 3 minute application video - WE SHOW YOU ! You don’t need to be a fan of “The Amazing Race” to enjoy this, but there are a few in-jokes that diehard viewers will appreciate. The video is in MPEG format. Feel free to make a copy of this CD but please handle with extreme care and do not make modifications of any kind! If it is damaged or unplayable - contact me immediately (J Marac) through Geocaching.com and I will replace it.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?? Do you know any of the Amazing Race producers? Jerry Bruckheimer, Burt Van Muster, Alex Rader, David C. Brown, Allison Chase, Barry Hennessey James E. Wade, Hayma Washington, and Evan Weinstein are some of them. Most geocachers will not know these people personally - and we realize this is an extreme long shot - but we are not intimidated by the odds! If you can’t give this to one of the producers directly, just keep it heading towards California, there lies the best chance for this to get into the right hands. Remember: each step gets us closer!

Also you can cheer us on by posting messages, or writing a review of the video on the geocaching/tracktravelbugs page. Have a camera? Upload a digital picture of yourself or group so we can have a photo record of everyone who helped us on our journey! We will send personal feedback thanking you for your involvement.

Find the bug for final details. (PLEASE NOTE: The travel bug tag is affixed to the inside cover of the case) Thanks everyone and wish us luck!

Want to see the video, but can't get to the actual bug itself? It is now posted for easy viewing on video.google.com You can view or download it by simply going to video.google.com and typing Amazing Race in the Search Video box and you will see it pop up (along with some other Amazing Race hopefuls). Or an even easier way is to go to the following link: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-652202264955089359&q=amazing+race&pl=true

This is an unique way to send a video to the producers. I watched the short and enjoyed it. These guys have put a lot of thought and effort in the video and should be great contestents for the show. They have also placed trust in the Geocaching community to deliver their video to the producers. I wish I could take it further but hopefully the Hoosier State can help keep this bug moving west.

Good luck Bob and Dan, hope to see you on next season.

I think it would be a great idea to email the host of the show. Remember that there is no such thing as bad press. I have been following this bug since it was first mentioned in todays cacher, I think I was number 19 on the watch list. I have not been a big follower of the Amazing Race in the past, but if I know that there are fellow Geocachers on it I will be as dedicated to it as I am to Survivor

Ok, so, I REALLY would love to see these guys get on the show. I have an idea and maybe it's far fetched or maybe not but, thought I'd throw it out here. The host of Amazing Race has his own webpage, http://www.philkeoghan.com/. Listed on this website is a contact email. I was wondering if it would be worth emailing their travel bug story to him? I know he probably doesn't check his own emails (or maybe he does) but, we could do something like that or enough of us signed a sort of petition to get them on the show and emailed it, maybe it would work? Or, we could all send emails about how unique these guys' idea is and how great it would be if he got on the show. Any thoughts??

I think this is an awesome idea and if the amazing race people don't put you on the show for this, then I am going to quit watching!

When t bird drops it off, I am going to try to find it and take it up north. Elkhart, IN is the RV capital of the world. There are a few caches up there that are visited often by people stopping to get maintanence on their RV and heading west. Hopefully, we can speed this trip along.
