Current Goal

To be put into the hands of an “Amazing Race” producer!

About This Item

Be a part of geocaching history! Introducing the first video travel bug designed to get it’s owners’ on a television reality show. We are Bob and Dan from Erie, Pennsylvania. We have been friends for 25 years and want to be on the CBS show “The Amazing Race”, the exciting reality series featuring 11 teams of 2 that race around the globe to a finish line where the winners split a million dollars! Check it out at www.CBS.com.

We have sent in our 10-page application along with video and passport. Now the goal is to get this bug directly into the hands of an Amazing Race producer (or send them to the below link where they can view it online). We are confident that if someone on the production staff views our video, they will want to meet us.

Anyone can claim they made a great 3 minute application video - WE SHOW YOU ! You don’t need to be a fan of “The Amazing Race” to enjoy this, but there are a few in-jokes that diehard viewers will appreciate. The video is in MPEG format. Feel free to make a copy of this CD but please handle with extreme care and do not make modifications of any kind! If it is damaged or unplayable - contact me immediately (J Marac) through Geocaching.com and I will replace it.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?? Do you know any of the Amazing Race producers? Jerry Bruckheimer, Burt Van Muster, Alex Rader, David C. Brown, Allison Chase, Barry Hennessey James E. Wade, Hayma Washington, and Evan Weinstein are some of them. Most geocachers will not know these people personally - and we realize this is an extreme long shot - but we are not intimidated by the odds! If you can’t give this to one of the producers directly, just keep it heading towards California, there lies the best chance for this to get into the right hands. Remember: each step gets us closer!

Also you can cheer us on by posting messages, or writing a review of the video on the geocaching/tracktravelbugs page. Have a camera? Upload a digital picture of yourself or group so we can have a photo record of everyone who helped us on our journey! We will send personal feedback thanking you for your involvement.

Find the bug for final details. (PLEASE NOTE: The travel bug tag is affixed to the inside cover of the case) Thanks everyone and wish us luck!

Want to see the video, but can't get to the actual bug itself? It is now posted for easy viewing on video.google.com You can view or download it by simply going to video.google.com and typing Amazing Race in the Search Video box and you will see it pop up (along with some other Amazing Race hopefuls). Or an even easier way is to go to the following link: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-652202264955089359&q=amazing+race&pl=true

Found this one up with ease. Was too big for the cache which made it a little difficult to extract. Planned to leave it in the LAX South Lockup, but had trouble finding it before I had to fly. Will be back in Los Angeles later this week and will leave it somewhere.

So glad you got your video reposted; it's great! I laughed out loud. Good luck, and I'm still hoping to meet you guys and compete against you on The Amazing Race.

Sorry I didn't get it parked this weekend. I was watiting to hear from a friend of mine that's in the industry. Unfortunately, she's only in film, not tv. I went to drop it off today at a cache, however, it wasn't large enough. Maybe tomorrow. Windkissed

Very exciting. Good luck to both of you. I have the TB right now. Grabbed it from 1 million BC. Went there for that purpose after reading the plead to get it moving. Great video. Will update this weekend after I place it....or find the producers.....

It's crunch time! Our application made it to Santa Monica, California in plenty of time. (Go to www.usps.com Tracking # 7004 1160 0006 3621 4645) Our video was updated with about 20 seconds of new footage (check out the link below), the 10 page application filled out, photos taken, passports copied - Bob and I are ready to roll! Now the hard part - waiting. The selection process starts as CBS wades through thousands of applications. Can ours’ rise to the top and land us an interview? I promise to keep you posted.

The Travel Bug itself is safe and in good condition, but is still stuck in the 1 Million B.C. cache. Hopefully it will be moved soon. What can you do to help? Refer your friends and/or other cachers to this travel bug page and encourage them to download the video at
http://www.pickledbeast.com/geocaching/amazingrace.mpg (Thank you again Kiawa!)
The more people who see it the better – all it takes is just one person who knows someone. That’s what networking is all about.

Also www.philkeoghan.com/ has a contact page where you can email Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan. He probably does not pick the applicants himself, but if enough people told him about us, he (or his staff) might forward the message on to someone who does. It’s always been a long shot, but we remain confident. Thanks to all for your encouragement and supportive emails. Hopefully you will see us at the starting line!

Sincerely,
Dan

Bob and Dan:

I admire the creativity with which you launched your Amazing Race application. The deadline for The Amazing Race 9 was July 26, and I hope your application made it to the right people.

I say this because you guys look like tough competitors, but I think Leigh Anne and I can take you in The Race, lol. We've also applied for The Amazing Race, and I think we've come up with an interesting approach. We've created a Web site dedicated to our attempt at running the Amazing Race: www.carolinablondes.com.

Please check out the site, and sign our petition. High fives, and here's to competing against you guys in The Race!
