Well, When we left GWS TRAIL #3, we had to decide where next. When we got to the fork in the path, we chose #2 over #5, even though we also realized that it was about 20 minutes to sunset (we forgot about sunset coming at 4:40 PM since the time change). In our typical style, we appear to have found the path with the most bushwhacking, but we did find the cache right where it was supposed to be. We even found our way back to the trail with little visible impact to the plants, other than the large collection of burrs we had hanging from our clothes.
On our walk back to our car (we decided that we didn't have enough time to try to find #5), we heard a noise in the tall grass and ClickChik made a comment about "they sure make a lot of noise in this grass" thinking it was a squirrel. When we saw what was making the noise, I jokingly said "Yeah, but I won't argue with it." I wasn't able to get a clear look, but that buck had at least 8 points on his antlers.
By the time we got back to our car, it was getting pretty dark, and it was just about half an hour after sunset, but we had no signs of a forest preserve ranger, so we didn't have to worry about tickets or fines. We probably could have tried for #5, if we could have seen anything there. 🙂
