Goal:- To reach the famous HOLLYWOOD sign on Mount Lee in Griffith Park (Hollywood, Los Angeles, California) and be photographed with the sign clearly visible in the background. Anyone connected with the film industry photographed holding it in front of the sign would be a bonus.
Drop this trackable only in Premium caches please to minimise any potential for it to go missing.
Finally, it would be great for it to return to the UK.
HARVEY PARRY (born: 1900 San Francisco, California, USA - died: 1985 Los Angeles, California, USA).
As a boxing and diving champion as well as an acrobat his first job connected with the film industry was as a prop man. His athletic skills were obvious attributes and the perfect qualifications for performing stunts. Although a well guarded secret that stunt performers doubled for the movie stars of the day, it wasn’t until after the death of Harold Lloyd in 1971 that it was disclosed he doubled Lloyd for the long shots of him climbing up a skyscraper as the prelude to the famous clock face scene in Safety Last! (1923). In a career spanning more than 60 years he was only seriously injured twice. In over 600 productions in which he was either a stunt performer or actor, he doubled A-list actors such as Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, Douglas Fairbanks, Peter Lorre, George Raft, Edward G Robinson, John Wayne and even Mary Pickford and Carole Lombard due his 5’6” frame. In his later career he had small acting roles such as in the 1970 crime series Baretta as well as Raging Bull (1980). His final film as stuntman, the Blake Edwards 1986 comedy A Fine Mess was released shortly after Parry’s death in September 1985. His dedication to his craft in satisfying the insatiable appetite of the movie industry was from a time in which he says “it was a different day…. the greatness of the old days. They made good pictures too… with a boxed lunch, a two-dollar bill and a roll of film. That’s what it was. But it was great.” A lifelong commitment to a career of FALLINGFORSTARS is truly worthy of a geocoin in his name.
